Regional Pest Plan consultation
Local Land ServicesThe NSW Government is taking a regional approach pest animal management through the development of regional strategic pest animal management plans. Regional pest animal committees and LLS are working to identify priority pest animals and the best methods of control. Each plan has been developed collaboratively through regional pest animal committees and alongside Local Land Services established strategies and actions to achieve goals that focus on:
  • shared responsibility for pest animal management
  • sustainable landscapes
  • collaborative leadership and innovation.
Draft regional plans are currently on exhibition and the current consultation period is an opportunity for stakeholders, organisations and interested community members to provide feedback on pest animal management. Read through your regional plan and have your say on pest animal management. Consultation closes at 5pm Friday 20 April 2018 and more information is available on the website.

Clybucca work recognised
The Clybucca Floodplain is set to play host to a $365,000 research and community engagement project, with funding from the NSW DPI Flagship Fish Habitat Grants Program.
The project, submitted by North Coast Local LLS, will deliver a remediation strategy, with engineering design options to improve water management across the floodplain.

The Clybucca project has also been featured in this year’s edition of Wetlands Australia. Read the media release here and the Wetlands Australia article here.

Breed or Buy?
A new Fact Sheet and Budget Calculator is now available to help with one of the most important decisions managers of beef breeding enterprises make each year - how many replacement heifers are needed to maintain breeding herd numbers?

It is a complex decision when deciding if the best option is to breed or buy replacement heifers, as each option has both advantages and disadvantages.

The downloadable Fact Sheet and Budget Calculator are available from the North Coast LLS website.

There are a number of ways to keep up to date with North Coast Local Land Services events including visiting our online Event Calendar, liking our Facebook page or following us on Twitter

1056 days of regeneration
Littoral rainforest that once covered the fertile lower Macleay floodplain has largely been cleared but work is underway to improve what remains. North Coast LLS is working with partners at several sites between South West Rocks and Grassy Head. Read more.

Working on Country
North Coast LLS is working with local Aboriginal groups on projects that develop skills to protect Country.  The projects provide opportunities to exchange vital knowledge, enhance habitats by managing weeds and invasives and help to keep connections and culture alive.

Talking Fert$smart
North Coast LLS recently held a Fert$mart workshop with dairy farmers from the Kempsey area. Dairy producers who have participated see benefits including better fertiliser use and soil health. The program looks at effective fertiliser use and using the right fertiliser on the right paddock.

Report wild dog activity
North Coast LLS is asking local residents and the farming community to report wild dog activity. Landholders interested in participating in a wild dog control group or free Vertebrate Pest Training should contact their local North Coast LLS Biosecurity Officer to find out how to be involved.
