Happy Easter from Outback Futures

Dear Friends of Outback Futures

I cannot believe I find myself writing to you as we break for the Easter weekend. It feels like only yesterday we were moving into February’s first Resilience clinic in the Barcaldine region.

This year the commencement of our Roll-Out into the RAPAD shires of Queensland has seen our capacity stretched at every level as we respond to growing demand for our services. It is exciting to be building new relationships in both Blackall-Tambo and Longreach and to be expanding and deepening our network in the areas where we have been established for some time.

It has been so refreshing to see some green in the landscape and the corresponding smiles on faces in many of our communities, but it is sobering to also remain conscious of the areas that have not received nearly adequate rain and the huge road ahead for all when talking about ‘the drought’ and its far-reaching impact.

There is much excitement among our ranks as we prepare for the “Batting 4 Better Mental Health” program in Longreach in the ANZAC Day week. Please support the work we do, and help us and the local councils to break open conversations around rural mental health by supporting these events. The dinner on the Tuesday night promises to combine great entertainment and a great cause for an all round top evening. Buy your tickets now!

We at Outback Futures are deeply conscious that for many in our communities, particularly Barcaldine, this Easter break is going to be a tough one...and we wanted to take a moment to touch base before the weekend began.

“Easter is probably the only time in the year when it is safe to put all your eggs in the one basket”

...but we believe it is about more than just chocolate and bunnies. It is by many seen as a time of new beginnings and hope and we really want to wish you some refreshing time out and a chance to connect with loved ones and recharge for the term ahead.

Thank you for your empowering support and keep your eyes peeled for our next e-news to hear the outcomes of the Bulls Masters week and our other exciting work coming up.
