Happy Easter from all of us at Condicote Stables

Dear Friends,

Wow, what a Festival!

Cheltenham never disappoints and what with the somewhat interesting weather in the preceding days, even the ground and going gave everyone plenty to talk about.

Both our Festival runners would have preferred good ground but they were both in great form leading up to their races and deserved to take their chances.  Neither disgraced themselves and they both ran really solid races and both head back to Cheltenham in April where on hopefully better ground it would be fabulous to get them into the winners' enclosure once again.

If you're reading this at breakfast time on Good Friday then you've got about an hour or two to get yourself down to Cheltenham Racecourse to come and enjoy a day of Pony Racing, with Freddie taking part in his first race on Boston Bell Boy (Bubbles). It's always a great day out with plenty to do, and ideal if you have house guests to entertain. Racing Scarves will be available to purchase for just £15. Freddie is in the First Race at 12.30 - see you there!

This month it's all about looking forwards to both a busy period of racing, and also planning ahead for the upcoming sales. The Goffs Land Rover Sale is of particular interest this year and we ask all interested in attending to get in touch - more on this below.

Because of the bad weather/heavy ground, Martin has been looking after the horses and keeping them fit, waiting for the better ground.  As soon as that arrives, hopefully we’ll see more runners and more winners. Martin prefers to do this than bottom them out on dreadful ground.

And, as ever, give us a call if you'd like to attend a sale, discuss any aspect of ownership, or arrange a visit to view any of the new arrivals.

Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

Brillare Momento is a tough mare and ran a big race in the Martin Pipe Conditional Race under another mature ride from Harry Stock and still looked in with every chance two hurdles out but the ground then told. We know she does very well at Cheltenham, having won on both the old and new courses, and we look forward to returning in April.

Trull House Stud Mares' Novices' Hurdle

Spice Girl ran an exceptionally solid race, and tracked the leading pair who went clear after 2nd last. Again, the ground told but this was a solid run against some quality horses in trying conditions - we look forward to returning with her to Cheltenham in April on hopefully better ground.

Join us at Goffs Land Rover Sale

You may have noticed during the Cheltenham Festival that there was a Tattersalls sale. The prices were phenomenal, with the average well over £150k. There aren’t many owners who can afford that.

Gerry Hogan and I are planning to go and buy a number of 3yo store horses for a fraction of this price at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in Ireland, 12th and 13th June 2018.

This sale has produced many top-class winners over the years, not least at Cheltenham itself.  If you want to buy a young horse, I strongly recommend that you look closely at this sale and if you’d like to join us there, you’re more than welcome.

#FreddieAsks

Cheltenham provided an excellent opportunity for young Freddie Keighley to get out and about to ask questions of some of the top names in racing including Rich Ricci, Barry Geraghty, Colin Tizzard, Ed Chamberlain, Rishi Persad and many others.

Keep checking on our YouTube Channel, Twitter and Facebook pages for more great #FreddieAsks content, and if you have a burning question you'd like Freddie to ask the stars of racing - why not let us know?

Recommend a Friend

Owner Jo Stainer receives his magnum of Bolly from Martin for recommending a friend into ownership. If you have a friend you know would love the thrill of racehorse ownership, or perhaps they are already owners looking for a change of scene - simply get in touch and we'd be delighted to welcome them over for a yard visit.

Buy yourself an Easter Present

There’s only one sixth share left now in the Presenting 4yo gelding, nicknamed “Big Den” as he’s big, dark, scopy and reminds his riders of Denman.  A gorgeous horse that I can’t recommend more highly.  Jon Hughes is organising the partnership under the Owners for Owners banner.  Please contact Jon or Belinda for details.

New Arrivals

Three new horses came into the yard recently.

Firstly, Buckle Street’s full brother, a 4yo named Debden Bank, who will be out in spring bumpers.  For a horse of his quality and breeding by Cacique, he’s competitively priced at £38k.  His dual hurdle-winning brother next runs in a valuable handicap at Cheltenham's April Meeting on Wednesday 18th.

We also have two excellent dual-purpose horses who are both priced at £15k, in Primogeniture and Matravers.  We know them really well as they were owned by Mary Hambro, who sadly passed away recently, and both are former winners just waiting to win again;  tough, genuine horses who will give their owners a lot of fun.

Also running in the clubs colours are Primogeniture and Matravers until they are sold - giving members four horses to follow, with the opportunity of owners badges & access, yard visits and hospitality together with the fantastic atmosphere of a friendly, well-run club.
