Our 15th Anniversary

IT'S TIME!

OUR 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION BEGINS APRIL 14TH.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

It is no small feat for a commercial fine art photo gallery to have survived during these economic times. New Mexico's economy is off, competition is everywhere, and art consumers have many, many choices. Still, you keep returning to us and we love you for it.

And certainly our customers and our photographic friends can't be beat. You keep us interested, challenged, and, most importantly, in business.

So please come see us so we can show our appreciation. April 14th is the first day of our month-long celebration. On that day, every piece of members' work in the gallery will be 15% off and that includes the work of many of our former members. We're having an Alumni Show in the Rio Grande Room. Come and see what some of our alumni are up to. You may even find some old friends, photos that you might have forgotten and thought you would never have a chance to buy again.

Here are some of the highlights:

1.) 15% off all members' work on April 14th, 2018. That includes phone orders from anyone unable to come to the       gallery that day.
    2. A day-long reception and party on April 14th, beginning at 11:00am. Come whenever you can; stay as long as you can.
    3. Birthday cake and other refreshments plus wine* at the reception.
    4. Pickles!
    5. Sign up for drawings for photos and gift certificates throughout the month of the Alumni Show, which will hang until Monday, May 14th.
    6. A free-range parade of elephants along with sky writing.
        (Subject to availability.)

So, please, come join us.

*We mentioned last month that our wine steward was prowling through our cellars in search of the perfect wines for the occasion. He was thinking then of the Petrus, several great Burgandies, and a Lafite -Rothschild. He says of the wines he ended up selecting, “They have a close resemblance to those great wines.” [Ed. Note: By which he means they are wet.]

This photograph, Cottonwood Vista by Urey Lemen, was the first photograph ever sold by APG, fifteen years ago. We're so proud of it, we won't let Urey take it down. Of course, over the years, it has brightened many a client's life and it continues to go home with new clients all the time. And why not? What could be better than this view of the Sandias on a beautiful Autumn afternoon?

In other Gallery News:

April's First Friday (April 6th)

This Friday night member Knate Myers will be talking at the gallery about his remarkable time lapse photography. He will also be showing some of his time lapse work in the Rio Grande Room and generously sharing his knowledge of how to do it. He'll begin around 6:30pm. That's at the gallery, 303 Romero Street in Old Town. You can use the stairs or the elevator to join us. Here is the link to his time lapse “Spellbound”.

Judging the Annual APS Student Photography Show

On April 13th, Rhonda, Chris, and Stan are judging this year's Albuquerque Public Schools student photo competition. If you've never seen one of the APS annual student shows, we recommend them highly. The students do some very good work. The show will hang at the Albuquerque Museum in Old Town beginning May 6th.

Earth Day, April 22nd

We'll be out and about on April 22nd for Earth Day, in search of that elusive creature, great art. Look for us and take a moment to reflect on our debt to Mother Earth. E.O. Wilson recently reminded us of Diogenes' inscription on a stoa in Greece, “For, while the various segments of the Earth give different people a different country, the whole compass of this world gives all people a single country, the entire Earth, and a single home, the world.”

Workshops

Gallery member Chris Sandberg has announced dates for two photo skills workshops.

• He will be leading a one-day class in and around Albuquerque on April 7. That class will shoot at the Petroglyph National Monument and at the Albuquerque BioPark, using those two settings as the classrooms for artistic and technical skills development. The class is limited to four students, and is first-registered, first-served. Tuition for the day is $175. You can register by sending an email to cksandberg@cksandbergphoto.com with the subject “April class”.

• He will be taking students on a one-day field class on May 12. That class will shoot at the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument and along the Turquoise Trail, using those two settings as the outdoor classrooms for artistic and technical skills development. Students will have the opportunity to work on both landscape and architectural photography during the day. The class is limited to four students, and is first-registered, first-served. Tuition for the day is $175. You can register by sending an email to cksandberg@cksandbergphoto.com with the subject “May class”.

More information about Chris’ classes and individual instruction is at https://www.cksandbergphoto.com/workshops.html.

Stan Ford teaches a class “Photographing Flowers & Garden” at the Meadowlark Senior Center in Rio Rancho on April 11th and 18th. It is open to the public and the cost will be $20 per person.

And on three dates, April 25 - May 2 & May 9, Stan will be teaching an “Introduction to Landscape Photography” for the City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation Department. That too is open to the public and the cost will be $65 per person.

Kent Winchester and Peter Boehringer will be leading their annual house-boat centered photo excursions to some of the most beautiful places on and around Lake Powell from October 30 to November 3rd. Information is available at Kent's website or Peter's website. We're only taking six people this year so early sign up is critical.
