As L.A. Unified returns from spring break, we have been hard at work—we marched for school safety, took our message to Washington, D.C. (and got some wins in the new budget), and engaged parents, students, teachers, advocates, and other community members in forums on accountability, unified enrollment, and the search for new district leadership, to name a few.
The Board recently passed my “Safe Schools” resolution, and next week we will vote on a resolution I am co-sponsoring to develop a school performance framework that would provide a consistent, reliable rating system for all our schools. My previously passed “Open Data” initiative and “TECH app” are underway and will go live in the coming months.
I hope you are all enjoying the first weeks of spring. Even if L.A.’s weather patterns resist the poetic symbolism of changing seasons, we Angelenos are not immune to the revitalizing energy of spring’s cusp. I am excited to continue working together toward a more transparent and accountable District. By engaging members of the community as partners, I believe that we can make more knowledgeable and effective choices that put kids first.

Headspace for All: I am thrilled to announce that we have secured a free Headspace subscription for all L.A. Unified employees. This mindfulness app can help all our employees practice some self-care while working hard for our kids. I even visited a teacher recently using her subscription to practice meditation with the whole class!
