AGM & Conference 2018 (Rescheduled)

As you are all aware due to adverse weather conditions we had to postpone our AGM & Conference in March.

As you can imagine, the staff and board were all hugely disappointed as were lots of members, volunteers and speakers.

We are very pleased that our AGM & Conference has been re-scheduled and will now take place over the weekend of April 13th to 15th at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

With just over a week and a half to go till the AGM, we are super excited and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone for the celebrations. The AGM & Conference 2018 is a big one and marks the start of a year-long celebration and commemoration for the society's 50th anniversary.

As a result of the date change, we’ve had a small number of places become available.

As places are extremely limited, if you would like to attend the AGM & Conference, we would encourage you to get in touch on 01 657 9900 as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment.

We would love for everyone attend but unfortunately that’s just not possible. We hope to see everyone throughout this year of celebration and commemoration for the society's 50th anniversary.

The final touches are being made to the Adult's Programme (please see website/social media in the coming days) but for a rundown of the Children's Programmes for the AGM & Conference, please see here.

World Haemophilia Day 2018

2018 is a momentous year for the I.H.S. as it marks the 50th Anniversary of the society and as such, we have some rather big plans for World Haemophilia Day 2018 (WHD) on Tuesday, April 17.

Light Up Red for WHD:

A series of prominent buildings in Ireland, will join others across the globe, in lighting up red at night to mark WHD, including Liberty Hall, The Dublin Convention Centre, The CHQ Building, The Mansion House, The National Concert Hall, The Civic Offices at Wood Quay and Cork City Hall.

Artworks:

Irish artist Shane O’Malley is creating two works of art to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the society. The two pieces will be officially unveiled for WHD 2018. One will be displayed at a prominent billboard on Macken Street, Dublin 2 (close to Grand Canal Dock), and the second, a large canvas painting will be installed in the main lobby of St. James’s Hospital.

Twitter Takeover:

I.H.S. CEO Brian O’Mahony will curate the @Ireland Twitter account from Monday, April 16 to Sunday, April 22. The account, with over 66k followers, is curated by a new person each week and in lieu of WHD 2018, Brian will take charge of the account for the week.

If you are on Twitter, please get involved and show your support, especially on World Haemophilia Day 2018 - using #WHD2018, #IHS50 & #Haemophilia50.

Non-Uniform Day

A Non-uniform day at St Brendan’s National School in Blennerville, Tralee, Co Kerry, will take place on World Haemophilia Day (WHD) – April 17. Staff and pupils are being encouraged wear something red to mark WHD. A big I.H.S. thank you to Rebecca Roche for organising this; helping to raise awareness of haemophilia and funds for the society.

For updates on what is going on for WHD 2018, please see haemophilia.ie, Facebook, Twitter or contact the office on 01 6579900.

I.H.S. Youth Mentoring Programme

The Irish Haemophilia Society is excited to introduce the I.H.S. Youth Mentoring Programme.

Our aim for the new youth programme is to foster the next generation of leaders in the bleeding disorders community.

We hope that participation in this new programme for young people with haemophilia or related bleeding disorders, and their siblings, will help develop skills and foster confidence to make positive choices for the management of their health, care, recreation and personal relationships.

The Leadership and Mentoring programme looks at ways for young people affected by bleeding disorders to communicate with each other, share experiences and learn life skills.

The programme will be for ages 13 to 17 years and will run four times a year – and will be rolled out after our AGM & Conference.

The Six Key Areas are:

  1. Haemophilia and You
  2. Relationships and Social Life
  3. Travel
  4. Health
  5. Future Career Development
  6. The Irish Haemophilia Society

You can read all about it in our Spring 2018 Magazine, here

For further information, please contact Robert in the office on 01 6579900 or robert@haemophilia.ie

Peer Support

If you would like to register you interest, more info and/or would like a peer support group meeting near your locale, please get in touch with Lyndsey on 01 657 9900 or lyndsey@haemophilia.ie.
