In this issue:  Summer Programme; Youth Applications; Youth Laser Training; House Volunteers wanted; Easter Series info; Wet/drysuits.
We made it through the winter, Easter is almost here, and so are all the joys of warmer weather, and the Summer Programme.  The Commodore and Flag Officers wish every member a very Happy Easter and look forward to a fabulous Summer Season beginning.
Easter at Papercourt

There will be no Easter Egg hunts at Papercourt this Easter (or any other that I know of) but there will be the Easter Series.   Held over all four days of the Easter weekend, this series comprises three races each day, first start at 11.00am  12 races in all with 6 to count.

and following the completion of that series we start the

Summer Programme

This is now available on the website here:
https://www.papercourt-sc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Summer-Programme-2018-v06e-24-March.pdf

For those new to the club, or those that have forgotten, the Summer Programme usually comprises Saturday afternoon racing - a Pursuit Race at 13.15 followed by a General Handicap race not before 15.15; and Sunday racing - a Pursuit race at 10.45am followed by General Handicap races at 13.15 and 15.00.  All these races are open to all members.  Coaching is permitted during the General Handicap races, but NOT during Pursuit races.

The results of these races go forward into two main series in each category - the Spring Series up to the end of June and the Summer Series up to the end of October.   In addition there are numerous restricted series to which these results contribute - look at the Summer Programme and all the information is there.

In addition from Wednesday 25th April until Wednesday 12th September, there is cruising available from 6pm until dusk.  Remember that you can choose Wednesday evening duties - two of those make up one of your required duties.

Some dates on the Summer Programme are set aside for Open Meetings or Surrey Schools Regattas, and there is no Club Racing or Cruising during dedicated Open Meeting days.

With the start of the Summer Programme until the end of October comes the relaxation of the need/rule to wear a wet or drysuit on the water, but common sense needs to prevail in colder weather, especially if you are going to be on the water for a while.

Of course the rules about wearing a buoyancy aid both in boats AND on the jetties applies to everyone on every single day of the year, even if only launching or recovering a boat from the jetties.
Summer Youth Training - Application forms now available

With the start of the Summer Programme, comes the start of Saturday morning Youth Training - commencing on 21st April or 28th April for complete beginners.  The application form can be found on the website here:

New for 2018 - Youth Laser Training

To encourage our young sailors to continue training and sailing once they have out-grown their Toppers, we are introducing a new Laser group for those aged 21 and under. We hope to sail most Saturday mornings in the summer programme beginning on the 21st April.  Initially we will start with a briefing session at 10:30 and hope to be on the water for 11.15ish, with some flexibility as to start times as the season progresses. The idea is to sail for a few hours in the morning and after a quick break join in the Saturday afternoon racing.

Application forms are now available on the website - same form as above, so please return them by the 8th April. Any questions please feel free to contact

 Your Club Needs You

Papercourt is a club - run by the members - for the members - it’s you that can make a difference

We need to expand the number of volunteer members who help keep the club running. As well as the twice yearly work parties, we meet once a month circa 10 am (day varies) to farm out what needs doing, to whoever can help. There is a very varied catalogue of jobs to be done (see typical non–exhaustive list of jobs below and of course the list is ever-changing).

Female and male members are equally welcome. So if you work part time, are retired or run your own business, then please contact me on john_brenda@pantings.plus.com to find out more or offer your support.

John Panting - House Committee

Non–exhaustive list:- Planting bushes, Clubhouse inner door bolt, Lay 1 ton of stones, Bonfire, Wheel barrow tyres repair, Fill gaps in slipway concrete, Moss killer Spray Growth in Car Park, Mains water pipe to insulate, Install mobile phone holder in committee boat, Lights to fix, Pontoon bump corners to screw on, Pontoon boards to screw down, Pontoon Rubber Protectors to glue on, Replace paving slab, Shed 4 Ramp, BBQ lay 60 bricks, Scaffold depth pole to drive into lake.

ICS at Papercourt 3-6 and 9-12 April

Our friends from ICS will be at Papercourt on the above dates - if you need to access the club at that time, please ensure that you check in with ICS so that they are aware you are on site.  This is a safeguarding requirement and as such, if you can avoid attending the club during the day on these dates, it is helpful all round.
Surrey Schools Regatta - new date - 5th May

Due to horrible weather the above had to be postponed but a new date has been fixed on Saturday 5th May.  Watch this space for further information in the next newsletter.
