Tis the season …… for testing! Every April and May we get into the thick of third trimester which usually means an ongoing cycle of assessments for our students: ACT, Accuplacer, MCAs in Reading, Math and Science, Spring STAR exams, Advanced Placement, and Final Exams in our regular courses. Not to mention the regular assessments that occur every day for our students. With this in mind, it’s important to note some specifics about certain testing days.

April 3 is ACT day. Nearly all juniors will be taking the ACT or Accuplacer Exam in the gym area or selected spaces throughout Tech. Due to the approximately 4-hour ACT exam, impact to classes is significant. Our 9th and 10th graders will follow their regular schedules and attend classes as usual. Following the ACT exam, juniors will be excused to lunch and then should follow their end of the day schedule for periods 6 and 7. Seniors do not come to Tech on April 3rd. Rather, all 12th graders will be required to participate in and complete a Senior Experience. Information was sent home to Senior parents and handed out to 12th-graders during Homeroom on March 27. Seniors will be expected to participate in activities of their choice such as college visits, completing applications for jobs and/or post-secondary schools, service learning projects, applying for scholarships, shadowing experiences, etc. Again, no school for Seniors on Tuesday, April 3. This only applies to Seniors.

On April 17 and 18, we conduct our state-mandated MN Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) in Reading (10th-graders) and Math (11th-graders). Each exam will be conducted in various classrooms throughout the school from 8:30 – 10:25am both days. For 9th-graders on the 17th and 18th, they will participate in two mornings of College and Career Readiness activities. Guest speakers will be on site both days from 8:30 – 10:25am presenting post-secondary and specific careers information. This will be a great learning experience for our freshmen! At 10:30am each day and beginning with period 1, we will follow our regular daily schedule with shortened class periods. For our Seniors on April 17 and 18, they need to report to school by 10:30am for their period 1 class.

New Tech Update

Two of the three Learning Neighborhoods have steel frames and beams for the exterior walls in place. The majority of the precast walls for the gym have been set. The facility is beginning to look like a school. Check out the current pictures below.

The next phase of furniture meetings took place on March 27 and 28. Design Subgroups gathered together representing various departments that include Administrative and Building Services offices, Science, CTE, Art, Music/Theater, Special Education, Media Commons, and General Learning. Staff in these areas developed options and provided input on specific furniture needs. Following the Design Subgroups, we will conduct “Sit Tests” where staff and students may tryout various furniture designs and models.
