Auction Thanks!

Thank you to all of you who helped make this year's benefit auction - The Queen Bee Ball - a success. We raised over $50,000 in support of the school (and almost $9,000 during the Fund-A-Need Paddle Call in support of kitchen improvements)! (The most dollars raised at the auction in recent years!) We appreciate all of you who worked on class projects, volunteered that day, and just came to the event to spend money for a great cause.

We are still accepting orders for the Grade Four project t-shirts through Monday, April 9th. If you would like to make a shirt purchase, you can print and complete the form at this link : GradeFour_Tshirt Order Form and drop off your check or cash to the Development Office in the Administration Building. (You can also pick up a hard copy of the form in the Development Office.)

Dogs on Campus

The Waldorf School of Atlanta recognizes the responsibility of having a safe and secure environment for children, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors. Dogs on campus pose safety and health concerns, including but not limited to, allergies, unpredictability, and potentially, even the most well-trained dogs, inflicting pain and suffering on a child or adult. For these reasons, dogs are NOT permitted on campus, with the exception of service dogs.

This policy is found on page 59 of the WSA Family Handbook.  The entire book can be found on the Parent Resources page of our website.

2018 Inman Park Festival, April 28-29, 11am-6pm

WSA will have a booth at the Inman Park Festival as we have done in recent years. We will provide a craft for children and have school information to share. We will also open our classroom space at Inman Park during the two-day Festival to provide a comfort station for families with small children where they can have a respite, feed their child and/or use our bathroom facilities. We are also considering offering story times during the day and handing out the remaining puppet kits from the recent show at the Decatur Library. Since we will have a big presence this year, we need more volunteers than usual to staff our booth. Volunteers will get a parking pass for their 2-hour shift (as long as they last).  We are also excited to have a presence in this year’s Inman Park Parade, which is on the Saturday of the Festival at 2pm. We are planning to drive one of the WSA vans, followed by our students and families (possibly jumping rope or waving silk flags). Final details will be determined soon; all ideas welcome! Email Stacey Alston salston@waldorfatlanta.org to sign up for a shift or to share an idea!

Whether you plan your shift around the Gnome March, a live music performance, the Dance Festival or some other part of the Inman Park Festival, we hope you will enjoy this fun packed weekend!  See this schedule for times and more information.

Seeking Pentathlon Judges

Fifth grade marks an important learning transition from mythology to history. Through study of the ancient Greeks, students develop an appreciation for the balance between skill and beauty, art and science, earthly life and spirituality. In the spring, students participate in a five-event Greek Pentathlon with students from other regional Waldorf schools, allowing them to test their skills in a celebratory environment.

You Be the Judge - Pentathlon 2019
Volunteer Now!

What is the Waldorf approach to sports and athletics? A great way to experience first-hand this important part of the curriculum is to be a judge at the pentathlon!  Next year’s pentathlon is in Atlanta, GA at Camp Twin Lkes, and features almost one hundred 5th graders from 9 schools. The camp is 45 minutes east of Atlanta; all pentathletes and judges stay overnight in a beautiful camp. You will meet parents and children from other Waldorf schools, watch the events and participate in all social activities.  Email kmacken@waldorfatlanta.org to sign-up or for more information.

March for Our Lives Atlanta, Georgia
Jibril Howard, 17

"Ever since late February, I have been working to organize Atlanta's March for Our Lives as part of the national campaign against gun violence, school shootings, and lack of gun control on a national level. I have been a member of the press committee which has been communicating with local and national press outlets such as the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, CNN, Fox News, and Vox. It has been rewarding to gain experience organizing a large-scale protest as well as engaging my 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech and to peaceably assemble. On the day of the protest, over 70,000 people turned out in Atlanta including around 30 members from Academe. It is a great feeling to have seen the fruits of my labor borne out with such resounding success."
