Spring is here in Alaska...

We have been enjoying some time out on the water and up in the hills around Sitka. It is shaping up to be a very busy summer with remarkable trips and great people. We are looking forward to showing off the best of Alaska to more lucky folks. This sunset over Mt. Edgecumbe happens to set in the caldera on St. Patrick's Day.

A recent dusting betrayed a visitor to our slip on the dock.
And we dusted off the snowshoes to explored the alpine.
There has been a lot of whale activity this winter in Sitka Sound, and we were fortunate to witness this tail-slapping behavior from one hopefully happy individual, as well as a large group of Stellar sea lions in the water and a couple of California sea lions hanging out on the rocks. The congregation of bald eagles on Biehle Rocks were another treat.
Sitka Sound can be a kayaking paradise with hundreds of islands and several great beaches to camp on. Rockwell Island lighthouse was built by a our eccentric local veterinarian, and last we heard - could be rented out for a stay.
Mount Edgecumbe looms over the sound, and it's distinctive cone has become our navigation beacon and bellwether.
There are a few amazing trips open (and it's hard to believe they are still available).
  • May 31- June 6, Sitka to Juneau. This is our "Meaning of Wild" run, as shown in this wonderful little documentary - some of which was shot aboard Sailboat BOB. 2 cabins open.
  • Aug 6-23, Juneau to Petersburg via the spectacular Endicott Arm glaciers. One cabin open.
  • Aug 28-Sept.4 Petersburg to Sitka reserved.

The outer coast of Kruzof Island is one of our favorite places on the planet on a sunny Easter weekend. On calm days we love to anchor and aimlessly wander the endless sandy beaches, or imagine ropiing out of life and living in the leftover WWII bunkers. And sometimes, silly things happen.
We were recently honored to host Captain Rob (and his Jen taking the pix) aboard for dinner.  Rob is widely know for his salty sailing and nautical wardrobe. The cat-n-the-bag also seemed to make an appearance.
