RPAYC Degustation Dinner

On Friday 16th a number of Alfred's Cruising attended the Degustation Dinner at the Club. Having a cruising table meant that not only was the food excellent but so was the company. The kitchen staff capably led by chef Scott Parsons served up an outstanding 6 course meal which was paired with some outstanding Italian wines.

Easter Cruise to Sydney Harbour

For Easter this year we are planning a cruise to the harbour departing Thursday 29th March and returning Monday 2 April. For those who would be interested in a night sail the plan is to sail down on the Thursday night. It will be almost a full moon so for those who have not sailed at night this is a great opportunity to experience being out on the water at night. Activities include Cockatoo Island for the Biennale and Birkenhead Point.
The current forecast is for a north easterly breeze below 10 knots with a north easterly swell making it ideal conditions for heading south to the harbour. As with all cruises should the conditions change then plans may change closer to the departure.

Cruising Tips

Tip of the Month – make sure you have the correct fuses on board

A blown fuse for the anchor windlass on a recent cruise highlighted the need to ensure that you have all the correct spare fuses on board. There are many different types of fuses used in modern sailing boat, some of which are pictured below. Do you know which types of fuses are used on your boat. It is important that you not only have the right types of fuses but also the correct rating. Use of a fuse of too high a rating can result in not only damage to devices on your boat but also overheating and damage to wiring due to excess currents.
