Congratulations to students Abigail and Elizabeth Garner and Hudson Werich who all participated in the Achievement in Music (AIM) Festival at IPFW in March.
All three students earned excellent remarks and feedback for their level 4 work as well as blue ribbons for scoring above 90% on both their aural and written theory tests.

Professional Development
My trip to the MTNA National Conference in Orlando two weeks ago was, as it is every year, a key event for continuing education as a teacher. The conference consists of three and a half days of sessions, recitals, and more.
The exhibit hall which houses several hundred booths is a huge part of the conference and where I often find new materials, programs, books, and games. In the photo here, I was excited to hit the high score for the day in a computer sight-reading program I'm thinking of incorporating into students lab time if I can make it work with my current digital keyboards.
In the photo below, I was checking out the second edition of the Piano Safari method, a series that nearly all my students have used in some way whether it was their sightreading cards, repertoire or technique books, or rote pieces. The two ladies on the far left are the authors of the series and the gal next to me is my good friend, fellow piano blogger, and roommate.
I wrote a short post on my website for piano teachers if you want to read a little more on my trip.

Summer Piano Camp at IPFW
|
|
Each summer, Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) hosts a piano camp and festival for young pianists.
Students spend a week with guided practice sessions, workshops, private lessons, recitals, and more.
To qualify to participate, students should be in grades 7 - 12 and play at an intermediate to advanced level. View details here. If your student is interested, please talk to Amy to see whether or not it would be a good fit for your student.

Piano Trio Performance
The Lincoln Piano Trio will be performing at Arts Place in Portland on Friday, April 13. This is a wonderful concert experience I would highly recommend.
Described by STRAD Magazine as “Sensational” “Bewitching” and “Models of vibrancy and control” GRAMOPHONE Magazine, the celebrated GRAMMY nominated Chicago-based Lincoln Trio—made up of Desirée Ruhstrat, violin, David Cunliffe, cello, and Marta Aznavoorian, piano—takes its name from their home, the heartland of the United States, the land of Lincoln.
Visit Artsland.org for more details.
