A Note From Our Executive Director

Dear Friend of Catalyst,

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Evening with Catalyst fundraiser on May 11th.  For me it is always a time to acknowledge the good work we have accomplished over the last year and throughout our history and it provides us an opportunity to thank all of you who support our work so generously!  This year we are back celebrating at The Palms in Chico.  We will be having a live, silent and dessert auction with some fun and yummy treats.  And as always, we will raffle off to one lucky winner a wine barrel full of wines and fun accessories.  We are so thankful to our Major Sponsors: Ray Morgan Company and Mom’s Restaurant who will be providing the food for the event as well as the dozens of local businesses who have signed on for sponsorship. It’s not too late to be a table sponsor; just give us a call at 343-7711 and let us know!

I also want to take a moment and highlight the work our Education and Outreach team is doing with young people in Butte County.  This April 13th, we will be hosting our 5th annual Youth Empowered conference. The mission of Youth Empowered is to inspire young people to become dynamic and effective leaders in their community by teaching them to prevent violence, build community, and champion justice. This year we will be bringing together 8th graders from across the county and work with them on how to be active bystanders in situations like bullying, dating abuse, hazing, or self-harm. The conference is focused on building confidence, meeting new people, and engaging in conversations about bystander intervention.

We are excited about this prevention work and look forward to sharing more about it at the Evening with Catalyst.  Looking forward to celebrating with you at The Palms!

Sincerely,
Anastacia L. Snyder

Youth Empowered: Friday, April 13th
We are proud to announce our Youth Empowered Ambassador Program! This program is designed to educate 8th graders in Butte County how to be active bystanders in situations of injustice. This new and improved version of our annual Youth Empowered conference will not only invite students to attend a one-day conference, but will follow them throughout high school to brainstorm ideas to implement the tools they’ve learned in situations they’re witnessing at school. At the end of their senior year, ambassadors who stayed with the program will receive a certificate of completion that will stand out on college applications and resumes.

To kick-off this program, we are holding a free one-day Youth Empowered Conference for 8th grade students on Friday, April 13th at the Chico Boys & Girls Club. Students will have access to interactive workshops, fun activities, a catered lunch, a YE t-shirt, entries to win prizes throughout the day, and opportunities to network with community organizations!

If you know of an 8th grader in Butte County who would be a great fit for this program, contact Sarah at 343-7711 or sarah@catalystdvservices.org for more information.
Last year, students worked together in small groups to brainstorm how to safely intervene in a harmful situations like bullying, dating abuse, hazing or self-harm.

Opening in Transitional Housing Program
We have one 3 bed/2 bath unit available in our transitional housing Cottage Program. The purpose of Catalyst’s Cottage Program is to provide transitional housing and supportive services for 12 to 18 months to survivors of intimate partner violence. The length of stay is based on the time frame needed to achieve goals that will lead to self-sufficiency.

A few things to note:
  • Family size requirement: 3 person minimum, 7 person maximum
  • Applicants need not be a participant in Catalyst services, but should identify as a victim of intimate partner violence
  • Applicants must be employed or be currently enrolled in school or a training program, OR if applicants have a permanent disability or currently receive SSI, they must have a self-sufficiency plan
  • Applicants must be able to pay monthly fees (20% of income goes to Cottage fees/utilities, 20% of incomes goes into a savings account with Catalyst)
  • Ability to identify goals that will lead to financial self-sufficiency within 12-18 months and that will contribute to physical and emotional well-being.
  • Please inform interested parties that the cottages are located in our housing program, which is a safe and confidential location
Review of applications will begin on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 and will be ongoing until the unit is filled.

Please share with your networks. If you know someone who could benefit from this program, contact Carolina at 343-7798 or carolina@catalystdvservices.org
