A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER, HACKIE REITMAN, M.D.
I wanted to give a quick thank you to the amazing staff, attendees, and speakers at the National Down Syndrome Society's (NDSS) first ever Adult Down Syndrome Summit, co-hosted by the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practice (NTG) and the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC). During this great event in Washington D.C., I saw so many people of all ages and stripes coming together -- from doctors and scientists to parents and self-advocates -- for the good of ensuring that all of us, despite our differences, have the same right to maintaining health, achieving happiness, and maximizing potential. I was honored to give a plenary speech to open the second day, and I could've talked to that audience all day (lucky for them I didn't!).

I'll be blogging about my experiences in greater detail in the days to come, but for now thank you to everyone for showing me the power of what can be done when people come together for the benefit of those of us with brains that are different.
