Please note these practice days are intended for professionals interested in mindfulness; which offers opportunities for networking across the range of professional of those attending (though you are welcome to bring friends or family with you - over 18 only though). They are not designed as days for the general public or as follow-up days for eight-week mindfulness courses delivered for service-users.

Please book via Eventbrite: www.imsats-may-2018.eventbrite.co.uk

Access our Mindful Living Show Talks

We had a good time at the Mindful Living Show in February, catching up with a lot of people too. We did two talks: one on integrating mindfulness into your daily routines and the other exploring the hype that has become associated with mindfulness in some contexts.

The Powerpoints used for the talks are  available here, along with a link to the access page for viewing the videos of the sessions.

Free, One Day Conference Exploring Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness: June 29th, 2018 at the University of Salford.

With the publication of David Treleaven's landmark book, 'Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness', mindfulness teachers have a clear framework to understand why someone may having existing trauma triggered by a mindfulness practices and/or may find a mindfulness practice traumatising. His book helps understand that, while mindful awareness is essential for trauma recovery, any mindfulness practice could be trauma-triggering or traumatising if  the practice is not adapted to meet an individual's experience and needs.

Please book for the conference via Eventbrite here.

You can find resources from the 2017 conference here and the 2016 conference here

One Day CPD Workshop: Making Space: Art and Well-being for Mindfulness. Saturday November 10th, 2018.

Facilitator: Cathy Fortune

Art can help us connect to our sensory experience, stimulate our curiosity and encourage reflection.
Looking at artworks can help us increase our observation skills, notice the stories we construct around them, and connect with the emotions they inspire.
Engaging mindfully with a creative activity can provide us with a rich opportunity to view our judgements and notice what it may be like to respond to these with kindness.
This workshop will explore a variety of ways to use visual arts practice as a way of supporting the teaching of mindfulness skills and concepts. Through a range of creative mindfulness practices, we will explore how art can help us to unpack our experience and facilitate conversations around mindfulness and wellbeing.
You can get an idea of ways that art and mindfulness can be integrated through the work Cathy has been closely involved in at the Manchester Art Gallery. The team she is part of at Manchester Art Gallery is at the forefront, nationally, of engaging with the wider community through art-based mindfulness projects.
She is also a leading member of the Start 2 team supporting recovery for people with mental health issues through mindfulness based approaches including mindfulness approaches using visual arts and photography.

This workshop is open to any professionals who have some familiarity with mindfulness or related approaches. It is NOT a requirement that those attending the workshop are mindfulness teachers - but some basic familiarity with mindfulness is necessary as there will not be time on the day to cover a basic introduction to mindfulness.
Professionals from a range of backgrounds are welcome - therapeutic, educational, health and social care etc.

The visual arts practices explored on the day can be adapted to integrate into a wide range of therapeutic, educational or supportive professional approaches.

The workshop fee is £75 and you can book here via Eventbrite.

2 to 7 Day Secular Mindfulness Retreat, Snowdonia, Jan 2019

The retreat begins Friday evening 18th January and continues to mid-day Monday 21st with the option to stay for additional days until Friday 25th.

This flexible retreat 2-7 day retreat is open to anyone who has attended Integrated Mindfulness/Mindful Resilience Enhancement mindfulness practice days or training workshops. It is also open to anyone who has undertaken training in other mindfulness-based and/or compassion-based teacher training or who has an established mindfulness practice with experience of longer periods of practice.

The retreat is led by Annette Dunn and Tim Duerden who are the lead trainers for Integrated Mindfulness and experienced mindfulness teacher-trainers and retreat facilitators.

The retreat is held in the wonderful Trigonos centre which has views of Snowdon, lovely grounds, walks by the lake and amazing food.

The retreat can be attended to meet the Good Practice Guidelines for Mindfulness Teachers requirements for retreat attendance whether this is partially through attending for 2-3 days or fully by attending for 5-7 days.
We aim to have a common start time of Friday evening, although arriving early Saturday morning is an option. We find the retreat is well paced by staying on Sunday night until Monday mid-day (though some people leave Sunday evening).
From Monday lunchtime onwards, people are welcome to stay for additional days up to Friday lunchtime. These additional days have the same structure of practice times as the first 3 days, but the practice periods are almost all unguided. We therefore suggest that anyone who has not been on a mindfulness practice retreat before attends, at most, Friday evening to Monday lunchtime.
