Here is a link to an overview of the wholeness work. It begins to build the case for the need to align our approaches and our language as to how our system works as a whole system. There's been an explosion in understanding about the human system, how we move, learn, adapt, respond but most movement and teaching approaches are still rooted in older ideas. This work is about making that transition. This video lays out this idea: Wholeness in Context

Gracie Luxuriating before she heads off wagging into her day.

Gracie's way to start the day.

When our dog Gracie gets up she flaps her ears, then she does this long lingering luxuriating physical yawn, (some of you may call this stretching) and then she looks up and wags. Wisdom comes from many sources. In Wholeness in Twelve classes we've been doing:
The Gracie

Give it a try and wag into your day.

Flap - A side to side wiggle from top to bottom, as if you have giant ears on each side of you.
Luxuriate - Long lingering, pleasurable expansions like a physical yawn (compare those words to 'stretch'. Often stretching has a grip in it. That's not luxuriating.) LUXURIATE in all directions and dimensions.
Wag - Wag your tail - Jiggle from bottom to top. Look at the world around you. Here you are. Ready to spring into your day. (When you walk imagine that wag all the way up and out and through you.)

A few of principles to incorporate into The Gracie:

1. When you luxuriate notice if you are balanced and easy or if you are in a strained reach. Luxuriating feels luxurious. Being in the center of your support  let's that ease be there.

2. You are a springy, elastic being. Let yourself spring up and out in every direction. Imagine you are a sprung system compare that idea idea with thinking you are need to align yourself, stand straight or you are heavy and tired and fighting gravity. Feeling tired? Think spring. Feeling pain? Think spring.

3. You stand on the planet not your feet. If you feel your feet, you are likely slightly off balance, off the center of support, which is a kind of lean. (You won't feel like you are leaning because your interpretation of these sensations has gotten inaccurate.) When you lean, your system grips to keep you up from falling over. That gripping response includes your feet. That response causes pain, injury and a sense that you are anything but springy.  To get the spring back play around with spring or call me or take Wholeness in Twelve! I can help you figure out if you are off support and how to get back on.

Here's a short tutorial of this process: The Gracie

Summer Workshop
Living the Language of Wholeness
Teaching From Wholeness
Monday July 30 to Friday August 3, 2018
Spring Valley, Wisconsin
Immerse yourself in your wholeness. How you frame your sense of yourself is what you experience. The culture is dominated by parts language: my body, my mind, my pain, my happiness. This work gives you the experience of a whole system framework. I move, I have ideas, I am supported, I am responsive, I get signals to guide me. This simple shift has profound implications for how you experience your system.

The workshop is rooted in you and your well-being. From this experiential foundation we will layer in pedagogical principles that emerge from our explorations.

  • How to teach without cheer leading or barking orders. (How to learn without shame.)
  • Helping yourself and your students develop personal criteria for assessment and artistic choice.
  • Enhance your/their ability to accurately interpret responses so they, and you, can make informed choices
  • Your ability to ask useful questions to foster discovery in the student and yourself rather than just telling them what to do.
  • Your ability to get interferences out of the way so you can get to the art making.
Limited to six people (ONLY 3 spots left).
