6 Tips for Better Fundraising Strategies

The difficulties of raising financial support has often kept God's workers out of the harvest fields and the result is that the mission field has become under-funded and under-staffed. But, the solution does exist. The Great Commission is not for the struggling, lonely missionary; it belongs to the Body of Christ working together. God has different strategies for funding His work through the saints. For some missionaries, it requires a paradigm shift from fundraising to partnership. For others, it requires tools and ideas that will equip them and provide practical plans for moving forward.
Jesus had a financial partnership team.
Paul had a financial partnership team.
God has a financial partnership team for every missionary.
Here are some ideas for fundraising and/or partnership development:
1. Invite God's people to joyfully join you in the Great Commission. Start with your local church, small groups, neighborhood, school, college friends, etc. This can be through emails, phone calls, chats over coffee, or even Facebook Messenger. Don't be afraid to reach out! You never know who is eager to give to a great cause for the Kingdom.
2. Use an inspirational verse as your theme for motivating people to partner with you and follow His call into missions. Choose a verse that really speaks to you and why you feel called to this particular work and share it with others as you invite them to partner with you.
3. Cultivate relationships and let them into your mission-minded world. People are still the ones giving you support, not bank accounts. It will bother and sometimes offend people when you tell them you need $3,000 and only hear from you when you need it.
4. Leverage social media. Tweet people. Like their Facebook updates. Email. Blog. It doesn't take much time and it will keep you from being out-of-sight, out-of-mind.
5. Remember to work on your mindset and preconceived notions regarding missions; the Great Commission is everyone's mission. You're either a goer or a sender. You happen to be a goer so extend the invitation to others and give potential partners the ability to join in with you. Perspective leads to attitude, which determines action.
6. Last but not least: ask clearly. Be confident in your calling and create long-term relationships as you go. The people you meet along the way have the potential to sow more than finances into your life so give them the opportunity as you confidently invite them into your journey.
