Welcome T-Mobile
Seattle ALPFA would like to welcome T-Mobile as our new silver sponsor! #WelcomeALPFAmilia Check out their amazing team! T-Mobile Careers.
Linda Velasquez from T-Mobile
Hi, my name is Linda Velasquez, a senior manager for the Network Operations Center at T-Mobile. I recently participated on a panel at the Women of ALPFA event. I was really nervous as this was my first time as a panelist and then finding out that I was the only person on the panel without a degree took that nervousness to a whole new level! I felt like an impostor.

But the feeling was short-lived. After hearing Jen Walsh speak, and addressing the impostor syndrome, I decided to own and share my struggles of not having a degree. I was quite surprised and overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support I received. I also learned that by sharing my story and struggles, and that I’m now going back to school in my mid-forties, I inspired other individuals in the crowd. Sharing is caring!

I also found that I experience many of the same challenges as the other amazing women on the panel,  from being passed up for promotions to not being taken seriously in work meetings. We discussed what worked for us, what didn’t and how to get through those challenges. And most personally to me, we discussed just how difficult it is to balance home and work life. I’ve often felt like the worst mom for missing my child’s event because I had a big project for work or because of work travel. Being away from family is difficult and really re-emphasizes how important it is to spend quality time with them.

Being on the panel, there were some tough issues that were brought up like diversity and inclusion in the work environment. That is the great thing about working for T-Mobile- we strive to treat everyone equally no matter your color, race or gender. This really shows itself true at T-Mobile with our strong pay equity statistics of 100.24% for minorities and 99.65 % for women. Diversity and Inclusion is in our DNA at T-Mobile and we take big stands like the “Are You With Us?” campaign kicked off earlier this year. Partnering with organizations like ALPFA helps us drive towards changing the world and continuing to lean in to our values around diversity and inclusion.

Success Story - Justin Santiago
My ALPFA experience has mostly been through school meetings and organizing events on campus with the group. Overall it has been a magnificent journey as I have been able to see so much more that ALPFA has to offer especially at the gala. The association has helped me open up in both a professional and personal way; where at the gala I was able to network and step outside of my bubble and get to know other individuals within the community. Being a Latino and seeing so many success stories gave me a sense of empowerment as to what I was capable of.

On a professional note I was able to identify my needs and match them with my skill-set. What I mean by this is touring different companies, talking to a myriad of individuals, and gaining insight from others within ALPFA set me on a trajectory on which I am at now, accepting an offer with DocuSign!

The most beneficial event was the gala by far! I met so many people, saw so many success stories, and it truly inspired me!

ALPFA has allowed me to tap into a network to gain incredible advice about professional etiquette, resume writing, cover letters, and even interview prep.
