A note from Eighth Grader Simone Wesley
In May, we eighth graders are holding a summit to educate participating SF schools about different aspects of the struggle that youth experiencing homelessness face. One part of our presentations is to have a piece of action that our guest students can take. I decided to host a clothing drive so that these students can sort them out and bring them to At the Crossroads, a group that is dedicated to helping youth experiencing homelessness. To accomplish this, I’m going to set up boxes throughout our school and get my fellow peers and others in SFFS to contribute to the drive. New or slightly used adult-sized clothes such as shirts and pants, and any sized shoes, are needed. Donating messenger bags and backpacks are also a great way to contribute to the drive. The boxes will be available on Monday, April 16th at the Front Desk, and in the 6th-8th grade commons.

SFFS Giants Night is Friday, May 18th! Tickets are $27 and can be purchased by filling out this online form and bringing your payment to the front desk, or by printing and submitting this form to the front desk. For more information about this event, please see the Giants Night Committee page.
All tickets must be purchased by April 30th!

Eating Disorder Discussion for Parents on April 17th from 6-7 pm: Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF Lindsey Bruett, Ph.D, will speak about warning signs of eating disorders in youth, and how to help our children support a friend who might be experiencing an eating disorder. The discussion will take place from 6-7pm in the Meeting Room. Please RSVP to Katherine Preston if you plan to attend and add any specific questions you'd like addressed.

Grades 5 & 6 Parent/Student Book Club: on April 18th from 6:30-8pm we will discuss The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. You can find this book online or in the library. Even if you haven't finished the book, we welcome you to join us for a lively discussion. Please RSVP to Jason Stone

SPEAK presents “Getting to Calm: Raising Healthy, Caring, and Successful Children in Our Angst-Ridden World Today” on Wednesday, April 25 from 9-10:30am at Burke’s (7070 California St, SF). Laura Kastler, Ph.D. will give a presentation focusing on how parents can be effective in handling typical parenting challenges with the understanding that we all share the all important goal of maintaining a loving, reliable and affectionate bond with our children. Please RSVP for this event here.

Single parent potluck: All single parents, those identifying as single parents, and their children are welcome to join us for a mini-potluck of light refreshments and coffee on Saturday, April 28 from 10am-12pm in the Learning Commons. Please contact Justine McGonagle if you have any questions.
