2018 September - EXARC in Lithuania

In late Summer, EXARC will meet in Lithuania, for the conference: "Archaeology for the People: Exhibition, Experience and Performance". There are many formats on how to tell the stories, archaeology teaches us. Over 300 archaeological open-air museums show one way, a multitude of live interpretation professionals are active every day, and many people demonstrate archaeological known techniques like flint knapping in museums, public libraries and many other sites. We invite all these people to Lithuania for the conference 'Archaeology for the People'. The three-day program costs only 95 EUR for EXARC Members. Registration is now open!

Send us your Visitor Total 2017

EXARC keeps an overview of visitor numbers of archaeological open-air museums. This way we can tell trends in this museum branch over the years, but also per country or certain types of archaeological open-air museums. For this we need cooperation of each museum in EXARC, just one total number is fine!

The first African Conference on Experimental Archaeology (ACE) took place at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, between 20th and 22nd March 2018. In the words of Bill Schindler, EXARC Chair - The first African Experimental Archaeology Conference was a complete success and full of great papers, engaging workshops and meaningful dialogue. Many of the papers were very strong and the organising team did very well. It was great to meet so many fantastic researchers from around the world. I had the honor of closing the conference on behalf of the conference partner, EXARC, discussing the the current state of experimental archaeology in the world. I am leaving this conference excited about the future of experimental archaeology!
