SEAC has two new Visiting Appointments 
SEAC has welcomed two new Visiting Appointments for the Summer Term. Dr Do Young Oh (Visiting Fellow) is a Researcher at LSE Cities and will be investigating the university-city relationship in Singapore and Vietnam in a post-colonial context. Daniel Peterson (Visiting Research Student) is a PhD candidate at Australian Catholic University, and will be working on his thesis which examines Indonesia's human rights legal framework and the rise of political Islam in the archipelago. 
SEAC Director spoke at the University of Turin
On Thursday 26th April 2018, SEAC Director Dr Jürgen Haacke spoke on 'China, the US and hedging in Southeast Asia' at the University of Torino, Italy. Dr Haacke's lecture was organised as part of the university’s TOChina Spring Seminars.

Overcoming Poverty and the Role of Politics in Economic Growth 
On Friday 6th April, LSE received Her Excellency Maria Leonor "Leni" Gerona Robredo (left), who spoke about her commitment to a pro-poor administration in the Philippines since being elected Vice President in 2016. This event was organised by LSE's International Development Society, DESTIN. It was co-hosted by LSE Department of International Development and LSE SEAC; and was chaired by SEAC Associate, Professor James Putzel (right). 
Policy Entrepreneurs and US Burma Policy under President Obama
On Wednesday 25th April, SEAC Director Dr Jürgen Haacke gave a public talk on the role of policy entrepreneurs in relation to some of the key policy shifts that the Obama administration embraced towards Myanmar between 2009-2016. This talk was the last in a series of SEAC Research Fund seminars that ran throughout Lent Term, showcasing the six projects that were awarded funding from the SEAC Research Fund in February 2016.
