Alabama sent a fan experience survey last week for feedback at Bryant-Denny Stadium and will do the same next week for Coleman Coliseum. AD Byrne joined The Game With Ryan Fowler to further explain the survey and discuss potential improvements to both venues: "We need to understand what is important to our fan base, where their interests are." Byrne also covered what it is like working with Tide FB HC Saban: "He [Saban] has been incredible. The focus and the drive and all those things that we have all read and know about him certainly are true. I've come to really appreciate the way the guys on the team love playing for him." More. "The parties have resolved this matter to their mutual satisfaction." That statement, from Liberty officials, is all we're going to get on the settlement reached between the school and former Flames FB student-athletes Jackson, Carrington and James, each of whom were seeking $50M from the school and $50M from their accuser after being kicked off the team and expelled from LU following accusations of sexually assaulting a female at an off-campus party in August 2015. The trio alleged defamation and Title IX violations and the settlements came shortly after the plaintiffs' lawyer, Farmer, said he had new information that would "blow up this Liberty case." A key concern for the plaintiffs was whether the school acted more extreme than necessary, given the then-recent hirings of several former Baylor staff members who had been embattled in similar issues in Waco. Long read, lots of details. (link)

Idaho Prez Staben has tabbed Dean of Students Eckles with leading a task force to look more closely at student safety. Eckles: "It’s to look at a holistic approach to the students on campus, from mental health and wellness, their personal wellness and safety, as well as our approaches to interpersonal violence and what that looks like. We want to make sure we’re creating an environment where students can do their number one job, which is be students. If we’re going to change culture, if we’re going to create an environment, it’s incumbent upon all of us to engage in the efforts that we can collectively in order to create the environment together." The Student Safety and Wellness Task Force will have 15 members, 10 staff and five students. Eckles goal is to have the first meeting by the end of the school year and recommendations to Staben before 2019. (link)

Michigan Rep. LaSata and Rep. Kesto together spearheaded an investigation into Michigan State's oversight of convicted ex-school doctor Nassar and found "absolutely no doubt" that the school failed to adequately protect students and patients on its campus. LaSata: "Our inquiry confirmed this was an institutional failure with multiple lapses in policy, procedure and culture at Michigan State. That must change." Since 2014, at least 243 people told MSU of Nassar's abuse. More from the investigation's report: "We feel compelled to note MSU appears to defiantly and wrongfully maintain it did not mishandle this investigation." Several recommendations as a result of the report, as well. (link); Lots here on an Outside the Lines report of former Michigan State MBB student-assistant coach Walton, who was accused of sexual assault in 2010. MSU administrators now say they would "handle it differently" if such an allegation were made today, as Walton was allowed to continue working under MBB HC Izzo while facing a criminal charge for allegedly punching a female MSU student in January 2010 and accusations of sexually assaulting a different female student that April surfaced over that summer. As part of "I Will Week," Arizona's athletic department hosted a discussion Thursday night about law and rape culture. As part of the campaign, students were asked to sign the I Will Pledge, committing to help end the normalization of sexual violence in society. Former Assoc. Dir. of Arizona's C.A.T.S. Life Skills program Steptoe spoke on Thursday: "This is an issue that women can’t get rid of. It’s going to take men to step up and answer that call to end that culture. When are we going to say enough is enough and come to bat for women?" (link)

Also Noticed: Eastern Kentucky will eliminate the men's and women's tennis programs in an effort to cut 20% from the school's athletic budget. AD Lochmueller: "I deeply regret the actions taken today in cutting athletics by over $2 million and especially the discontinuation of our women’s and men’s tennis teams. Anytime a student-athlete suffers due to no cause of their own, it hurts — badly. I want to thank each of them for their contributions to Eastern Kentucky University both in the classroom and on the court." (link); (link); Straight from Indy: "San Francisco failed to monitor its golf program, allowing two former head coaches to engage in recruiting violations, according to a Division I Committee on Infractions panel. Additionally, the two former head coaches failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance." Public reprimand and censure for the school one year of probation starting yesterday, vacation of records, no recruiting in December and $5K fine.
