DWDr: Where to Dance. When to Dance. Why to Dance.

A Tale of Two Dance Parties: A DWDr Special

Howdy FDFs,
To misquote Dickens, “It was the best of time, it was the best of times." A’ss I’ve promised in the past, I only come out of my semi-retirement if something potentially really cool is in the offing that would be horrible if you missed it.  And there are two things coming this week that fit that bill, plus another possible awesome happening a bit later.
So let’s not waste any time and get started with item number one

Sunday, April 8 at 6:00 pm
Don’t miss the 2018 season opener of the THIRD STREET POTLUCK DANCE PARTY! It’s been too long since we partied in the Promenade and we’re looking forward to seeing everybody who can make it out for a fun time with some free outdoor dancing. Look for us in our usual area in the Third Street Promenade in the block between Arizona and Wilshire and remember to bring both your dance music and your dancing friends for a wide repertoire of blues, R&B, swing, Westie, turquoise and anything and whatever else you bring (hence the term potluck, you provide the music, we provide the permit and sound system). Let’s make 2018 a year to remember so PLEASE PASS THIS INVITE ON TO YOUR DANCE LOVING FRIENDS. See more info at https://www.facebook.com/events/180329522604024

Then on

Thursday, April 12
Back from his European goodwill through good music tour with Joe Bonamassa, it’s time to get down with some really great blues with PAULIE CERRA at JOES GREAT AMERICAN in Burbank. I CANNOT STRESS HOW MUCH FUN THIS SHOW IS. PAULIE CERRA plays from 8 PM - 10 PM at JOES GREAT AMERICAN BAR & GRILL - 4311 W Magnolia Blvd, Burbank, California 91505 - https://www.joesgreatbar.com

Other fine dance opportunities:

It’s big band tonight when THE FABULOUS ESQUIRES make the scene swing at RUSTY'S RHYTHM CLUB, in the Elks Lodge, 8025 W. Manchester, Playa Del Rey, (park and enter in the back.) See more information at http://rustyfrank.com

Saturday, April 14
It’s an embarrassment of dance riches.

BLUES LIBERATION FRONT continues their explorations of the world of canned ‘turquoise’ (music blues dancers can groove to that doesn’t necessarily fall into the pantheon of blues music). BLUES LIBERATION FRONT at NADIA’S RHYTHM ROOM - 14261 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks. http://www.bluesliberationfront.com/

But if you like your blues live, then check out 2000 LBS OF BLUES at tonight at HARVELLES SANTA MONICA- 1432 4th Street (near Broadway) Santa Monica, CA 90401 http://santamonica.harvelles.com

The amazing AYO AWOSIKA (looks like a royal guard from Wakanda, sings like a siren from Greek mythology) will be holding court from 9pm till midnight in the lobby lounge at HOTEL CASA DEL MAR - 1910 Ocean Way, Santa Monica - (310) 581-7714. http://www.hotelcasadelmar.com/los-angeles-hotel-lobby.

And the Amazons of Themyscira have landed in P’Dena and they’re carrying not instruments of war but music. Come see if there are any wonder women among them when THE LADY LUCKS, an all-female band make their debut performance at PBDA – at GRACE HALL (behind the church), 73 N. Hill Avenue, Pasadena, 91106 www.pasadenaballroomdance.com

Friday, April 27
DO SOMETHING BLUE is back in their old location with brand new music. http://dosomethingblue.com/

SATURDAY APRIL 28
It’s a SWING DANCE FLASH MOB IN SOUTH PASADENA with dancing in the streets starting at 3:30pm  to bands like ANGEL CITY COMBO and THE BLUE HAWAIIANS. Then get your groove going on a real dance floor  at 7:00pm with MAUREEN & THE MERCURY 5 followed by Big BAD VOODOO DADDY at 8:30 at THE ECLECTIC FESTIVAL in South Pasadena (aka SPDena) Now I have to warn you that the website posting information about this is a TOTAL MESS, and after digging like a diamond mine worker, I was able to find out that the events are free at but darned if I can figure out where the events are happening so I guess we’re supposed to drive around SPDena until we hear music we like and stop, get out of the car and start dancing. But maybe they’ll post more info as the event gets closer, so give a look at http://theeclectic.rocks/

You can stop reading now.

The DWDr Final Quote
"
It is a far far better dance I go to than I have ever known.”
― Sidney Carlton’s smarter brother who knew better than to hang out in Paris in 1793.
