YPPG Lobby Day for the Young Voter Act

Join students from across New York City and New York State for the second annual YPPG lobby day on April 24th  in support of the Young Voter Act. We're fighting for a voting age of 17, for better civic education in schools, and for a voting system that gives everyone a voice, not just a select few.

Last year we had huge success with this lobby day, but this year it needs to be even bigger!

Register and more information here.

Help Elect Shelley Mayer

While New York state political observers are captivated by the drama over a deal between state Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein to reunify Democrats in the state Senate, control of the chamber may actually be determined by the outcome of a special election in Westchester later this month.

On April 24, elections will be held for 11 vacant legislative seats, including two in the state Senate. One of these seats is in a safely Democratic district in the Bronx. The other has a history as a battleground district. This is the seat being sought by  Democratic Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer.

You can learn about Shelley at https://www.shelley4senate.com.

District 39 Participatory Budgeting has begun

The PBNYC process gives New Yorkers the power to decide how to spend tax dollars in our neighborhoods.

In Council Member Brad Lander's District, you have the opportunity to allocate up to $1.5 million toward capital projects. These projects tend to be toward improving a long-term asset such as equipment or building. Our district also participates with allocating $50,000 toward expense projects, often short-term programming/expenses to organizations that benefit the community.

Cast your vote during Participatory Budgeting Week, THIS WEEK April 7th-15.  Find a location to cast your vote.

The Brooklyn Friends of the NRA Brooklyn fundraiser will happen as planned on April 12th at 6pm. They are keeping the location secret until the day before to avoid the public outcry that erupted and caused the cancellations by the last two venues. We need to be prepared to move on this quickly and in large numbers to tell them that the NRA is not welcome here.

CBID Dinner - Journal Ads

As you all know, our annual dinner is coming this April, 29th.  The dinner itself will be an amazing evening where we hear from our local officials and honor some of our community's brightest and most dedicated members.

Also just as importantly, it's our club's fundraiser, which allows our club to do things like rent buses and print petitions and donate to candidates.  So we need to not lose sight of this aspect either.  At the dinner we have our club journal, where ads are printed from members, candidates, and local businesses.  We need to strengthen our outreach to local businesses in particular.  This is a great way for new and small businesses to get their name out to the attendees and to the club at large.

Please take some time and reach out to your favorite watering hole, your favorite local restaurant, your favorite yoga studio, and ask if they would buy an ad.  Info on the ad pricing below, and if you have any questions about ads specifically, you can email Asher at ashercbid@gmail.com

  • Gold Page $500
  • Back Page of the Journal $1,500
