Volume 6 Issue 1
April 10, 2018
It's that time of year. The days are getting longer, warmer, brighter. You've been thinking about those projects all winter long. Now's the time to get started. You've still got plenty of time to plan those outfits and costumes, put together that set, build that art car, practice those performances, try those recipes, build that art piece, do that thing you do!! We can't wait to see it.
To help inspire everybody and get things going, there's a few events coming up. Don't miss stART, Element 11's "Precompression" event, and get ready for BDITP (Burner Day in the Park) in May. Hold on, here we go!!
BONUS ROUND: Element 11 in one of the oldest regional Burning Man events in existence; so old, in fact, that we're starting to forget. So we're starting a collection of past effigy art and themes. Scroll down to check out what you missed (or maybe you didn't).

Join us for stART, upcoming on Sunday, April 15th 4-7pm, at the Urban Arts Gallery located at the Gateway Mall! This is the Element 11 community's PreCompression event, a showcase of the projects that have won art grant funding from Element 11 this year. Come take a peek at these folk's awesome ideas and help them raise some extra cash. For your $10 entry fee, you will receive gold coins to distribute to individual projects to show your support. Extra coins are available if you find that you *just can't stop* giving. If you are looking for a way to be involved making artwork, this is a great way to meet the people who are getting it done, make some connections, and maybe find a project or two that has use for your skills!
We'll be showing off the winning design of our Theme Art Contest, unveiling at 5 PM sharp. Don't miss it! Afterward, you'll be able to purchase hard copy tickets for the first time this year.
Keep an eye out for an article in the next few days highlighting some of the things you'll encounter at stART and Element 11, and a list of all grant winners for 2018.
Join us for music, performance, and art, as we get stARTed down the road to Element 11 2018, As You Wish!

Put it on your calendar! Burner Day In The Park 2018 is Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Murray City Park between 4 and 8pm. We’re planning to have artists and performers, theme camps, a quarterly Element 11 community Town Hall, Element 11 tickets (cash only please), volunteer department information and sign-ups, food for sale, and an Opportunity Drawing.
If you or your camp would like to contribute to BDITP, please let us know. We particularly would love more items for the Opportunity Drawing. And we could always use more volunteers. Please contact Cami Chatterton (Element 11 Volunteer Coordinator) at cami@element11.org or on Facebook.

ELEMENT 11 - Art History 101
|
|
Element 11 in one of the oldest regional Burning Man events, and we've seen some unbelievable art (sometimes literally) through the years. To document and inspire our community, we're starting an online collection of past effigy art and themes and maybe more.
Help us fill in the blanks - If you know of additional past themes or artists, photo credits, or have photos of effigies, please let us know at bod@element11.org. If we've made mistakes, please let us know (we apologize in advance). We'd like to eventually transfer this content to our webpage. Enjoy, and congratulations - it's your community!
