Today, we would like to briefly inform you on our latest activities. A lot has happened since the last edition of our newsletter. Read more on the launch of the ELIANT petition for an age-appropriate media education and the adoption of a new resolution adopted in the Education Committee of the European Parliament that is calling for educational choice and public funding for non-profit education. Other issues covered: News from the ET2020 Working Group Schools, reports of the last two Council meetings in Dornach and Cracow; Domestic reports from Italy and the Netherlands and a list of upcoming events.

Sign our petition for an age-appropriate media education
ECSWE supports the recent ELIANT petition calling for the right to run screen-free day care units, kindergartens and primary schools. Teachers, and parents must be able to decide for themselves up to which age educational institutions are screen-free. [read more]
On 25th April 2018, the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education adopted its resolution on the “Modernisation of Education in the EU”. The rapporteur, MEP Krystina Lybacka, aimed to determine the new direction of education in the future. We are happy to report that the adopted text contains key demands of our advocacy such as freedom of parental school choice, public school funding and our call for an age-appropriate media education. The ET2020 Working Group Schools was launched to help Member States to address the key challenges of their education systems at European level. It is composed of experts nominated by European member countries and other key stakeholders to exchange information and best practices to set up common priorities and work on policy guidance at European level. It was launched in February 2016 and disseminate its results during a conference on 17th and 18th May 2018 in Brussels. ECSWE has actively contributed to its work over the whole period of its mandate. [read more]

Cracow, Poland, January 2018
Our last Council meeting took place in Cracow Friday 26th – Sunday 28th January 2018 at the Pedagogical University Cracow. The meeting featured an International Conference on Alternative Pedagogy on Friday afternoon. [read more]
Dornach, Switzerland, November 2017
From 17th-19th November 2017, ECSWE met at the Goetheanum in Dornach. This was a special meeting, as the International Forum for Steiner Waldorf Education and ECSWE held two joint sessions. [read more]
Domestic reports
Italy
While the number and distribution of Waldorf Steiner schools and kindergartens in Italy has not changed noticeably in the last years, there has been an increase in the number of members of the Federation, bringing numbers up to 32 members, with another 12 applications in progress... [read more]
The Netherlands
The first Waldorf school was founded in 1923 in The Hague. Amsterdam and Zeist followed in 1933. In the 1970s there was a strong growth in the number of Waldorf schools across the country. The schools were relatively free to organize their education... [read more]
Impressions from the WOW-Day 2017
On the big campaign day „Waldorf-One-World-Day“, young people and children are actively campaigning for a better world. The revenues grant children school time, a sheltering community, or a warm meal.
WOW-Day in Italy
The Scuola Steineriana Colli Euganei chooses to integrate their WOW-Day activity into the annual Saint Martin’s walk. And that for a very specific reason as Fabio Montelatici, one of the teachers, explains. [read more]
WOW-Day in Ukraine
The Waldorf School in Krivoy Rog took part in WOW-Day already for the first time. And that even though the school itself urgently needs support. [read more]
