eManagement Tips - April 2018

A free monthly update for Associates and Members of RiverRhee's Managers' Community

Spring is on its way!  Welcome to RiverRhee's management version of the April 2018 issue of eManagement Tips, our monthly resource for new and experienced managers who have attended or are considering one of our management courses.

The two topics for this month's eManagement Tips are:
  • Tips for coaching and mentoring
  • And... highlights of changing management practices
Other news:

April is also being described as "Autism Acceptance Month".  If this is a topic that interests you, and you are not already receiving our periodic newsletter on Neurodiversity, you can catch the latest issue (and subscribe for future issues) here.

We had some great feedback for our March Introduction to Management course:
  • Great course, it is an eye opener and the tutors motivate you to learn and improve! The coaching session was very interesting and helped me realise deeper things!

  • This has been a fantastic three days. Elisabeth and John so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I have taken a large amount from this and am very keen to start implementing it. Thank you!

If you have not yet been on the Introduction to Management, then you might like to book a place for the 19th-21st June course.

You can see further details for all of our Spring courses at the foot of this newsletter.

As always, we would love to hear your thoughts on any of this content, and also any suggestions for what we might feature in future issues of eManagement Tips.

eManagement Tips is circulated to over 200 managers  / HR contacts each month.

Tips for coaching and mentoring

We are continuing to read our way through Daniel Goleman et al's "The Building Blocks of Emotional Intelligence", which we referenced in our notes about Influencing in last month's eManagement Tips.

The booklet on coaching and mentoring is a really nice overview which  Elisabeth has interpreted in the form of slides: Coaching and Mentoring - an interpretation

There is still time to book onto our 24th April Coaching Skills for Managers course if this is a topic that you would like to explore for yourself.

Look out for the next blog covering the Conflict Management booklet.  Goleman et al have some excellent insights on this topic.

Changing management practices?

We like to keep on top of any changes in management practices so that we can pass these on to our delegates.

The March - April issue of Harvard Business Review had some very interesting insights on what companies are doing in a range of sectors, including the Life Sciences and IT.

Management practices referenced include:

  • Coaching vs telling
  • Providing frequent and wide-ranging feedback
  • Promoting reflection and continuous improvement
  • Moving to single project team membership (as opposed to multi-teaming)
  • Taking a more collaborative approach to recruitment
You can read more about this and other chancing practices in RiverRhee's March - April 2018 newsletter.

Would you like to add a little polish to your "soft skills" during the Spring?

Here are a few of the areas that we have planned to help managers and individual team contributors polish their “soft skills” in our open courses and through our in-house courses:

  • Develop your assertiveness, influencing or communication skills
  • Be more confident with your presentations
  • Learn how to build more effective customer relations
  • Be more efficient with your time, processes or projects
  • Deal more effectively with all the changes going on in your business or team
  • Increase your success rate when recruiting and interviewing candidates
  • Manage your employee relations, performance and development with conviction…
If any of these are areas that you would like to add a little polish to - then take a look at the course dates below, or get in touch for a tailored in-house course, or one-to-one coaching.
