Call for Nominations for Station Representatives

CMMN-RCSM Steering Committee
2018-2020

We need your help! The Canadian Migration Monitoring Network – Réseau canadien de surveillance des migrations is seeking nominations for the  Four Station Representative positions on the CMMN-RCSM Steering Committee for the 2018-2020 term.

What is the role of a Station Representative?
These Station Rep positions play a vital role in providing station input into the strategic and scientific direction of our network between national meetings.  It is also a great opportunity for stations to learn more about the network, and everything that happens behind the scenes to ensure that we are doing good work and good science. To get a better of understanding of how it all works, you can check out the Steering Committee Terms of Reference. It is not a huge time commitment on top of your station workload.  The Steering Committee meets via conference call every two months, plus station representatives may also be participating on a sub-committee depending on your area of interest.

For more information, you can contact any of  the current station representatives. They would welcome any questions about the role of Station Representatives and what that commitment would mean.
How can my station make a nomination?
Any member stations may nominate a candidate for election by the CMMN-RCSM member stations prior to the upcoming national meeting on August 16-19,  2018. Nominations  may be in writing or electronic and must be submitted by the designated contact for the member station. Nominations must also be accompanied by the written confirmation that the candidate is willing to stand for election, and a brief biography in either French or English. In the event that more than four nominations are received, an election will be held a minimum of 8 weeks prior to the upcoming National Meeting. For information on how the election process works, you can check out the Procedures for the Election of Steering Committee Representatives

Bird Studies Canada applauds the efforts of each and every one of the nearly 500 participants in the 2017 Great Canadian Birdathon. The contributions you have made for Canada’s birds are remarkable, and truly appreciated by all of us at Bird Studies Canada!

One example of these contributions is the amazing effort several teams put forth on behalf of the Delta Marsh Bird Observatory (DMBO) in Manitoba. In total, over 50 people signed up for the Great Canadian Birdathon with the goal of raising the funds needed for DMBO to rebuild its banding station. Through the Great Canadian Birdathon, nature clubs and Canadian Migration Monitoring Network (CMMN) member stations receive a portion of the funds generated by their supporters. As a CMMN member, DMBO will receive a full 75% of the total funds raised by these dedicated individuals.

“On behalf of the board of directors of the Delta Marsh Bird Observatory, I would like to thank everyone for their incredible support of our banding station,” said Paula Grieef of the DMBO. “Through your efforts we will be able to purchase a new building. Thank you so much.”
