Guns, An American Conversation.

We are excited to be a part of bringing together people to talk about one of the most important issues facing our nation.

Spaceship Media is collaborating with Advance Local, TIME, the Newseum, Essential Partners and Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting on Guns, an American Conversation. Our latest dialogue journalism project launched the weekend of March 23-24, with a two-day gathering at the Newseum that brought together 21 people from around the country with a range of opinions on guns. TIME’s video about the project kickoff is worth a watch. A closed, moderated Facebook group of about 150 people discussing guns launched the first week of April and will remain open for a month. Here is an early story from the project about two men in the group who formed a friendship across their differences.

Spaceship is collaborating with the Pantsuit Politics podcast on The Many, our national conversation for women of all political stripes that will run through the midterm elections. Earlier this year, co-founders Eve Pearlman and Jeremy Hay were on the podcast  talking about the project. They will be back in early May along with some group participants. If you or someone you know is interested, send them here.

Carrying The Many

Project manager Adriana García wrote about her experience moderating The Many. She says, "The moments that have become transformative to me are when these women get real with each other. I never expected for them to let their guard down so completely and, frankly, it’s beautiful.”

Our team keeps growing!

Kristine Villanueva joins Spaceship as a reporter/moderator. She is a journalist passionate about using engagement to strengthen trust between journalists and the communities they serve. She has written for publications in the New York and New Jersey area including TapInto and Newsday’s amNewYork. She received her master’s in social journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University-Newark.

Trey Poché comes to Spaceship to help with moderation. A recent graduate from Saint Louis University in Missouri with a degree in Philosophy and Anthropology, Trey hopes to moderate in a manner that helps facilitate mutual understanding, appreciation, and transcending differences, wherever possible. This fall, he will be attending Law School at Louisiana State University.

Can you trust your news source?

We are piloting a new resource for people in our conversation groups and wanted to let you know about it as well. Tribeworthy is a scrappy start-up that aims to be the Yelp for news consumers. They have built a Chrome browser extension and an iPhone app that allow you to quickly review articles and see at a glance what stories other news consumers trust or distrust, and why.
