Mordecai CAC March minutes:
Mordecai CAC minutes from the March 13th, 2018 meeting Co-Chair Sean Farres welcomed everyone to the meeting. There were 27 people in attendance, and the February minutes were approved. Meeting was held at the Halifax Community Center.
Police Report Offer Taylor gave an update for the prior 28 days. There were two robberies on Wake Forest Road, resulting in two arrests. There were two burglaries, one domestic assault, and one theft of a gun from a car. He said please DO NOT LEAVE GUNS IN CARS! Officer Taylor introduced Officer Matt Davis as a local beat officer.
Parks and Rec Emily with the Halifax Community Center noted a few new or upcoming programs. On April 21st will be Explore Bangladesh for 6-10 year olds. There is new high intensity training class (HIT), and a new Ola Amigos pre-school spring program.
City of Raleigh Budget Office Toy Beeninga, Raleigh Residential Budget priorities survey for FY 2018/19 The survey is open from Feb 27th through March 30th, will take just a few minutes to fill out, and is also offered in Spanish. The survey is based on six categories in the strategic plan, you identify and rank your top four. To fill out the survey you have several options; online at budget@raleignc.gov, fill out a copy at city hall, or request a paper copy by mail. For more information call 919-996-4646. Results will be presented to city council at their budget work session.
Dorothea Dix Park - Evolution of America’s Next Great Park, Nicole Steele A campaign has been launched for a 150 year plan; a park for everyone built by everyone. It will take about 25 years for complete build out. The designers would like to know what events would bring you and your family out to the park. Your input can be made at DixPark.org, comments go directly to the designers. There are also in person planning meetings, which will consist of a 40 minute presentation from the designers before breaking in to focus groups. The meetings can be found by going to eventbrite.com and searching Dix Park. The designers are available for presentations to your group by request.
Person Street Partnership Sarah Dewitt gave a presentation on the Pace Street parking program, the pilot program is close to approval by city council. Residents will apply for a parking spot, which will be painted for them. This still leaves some spots available for non-residents. The program will be tested over three years to see if it works.
Committee Reports Parks - the next work day will be April 11th.
Zoning - The stormwater variances for 1335 Courtland have been approved. Traffic - There is a traffic study for Frank St for four-way stop signs at Watauga and Harding, Watauga and Frank, and Watauga and Clifton. The city is now also considering lack of sidewalks, proximity to schools, and pedestrian and bicycle traffic in their traffic studies. • An additional Do Not Enter sign was approved for Courtland at Wake Forest.
Signs - The next meeting will be April 10th, volunteers are needed for install day.
The Gables Motor Lodge Tift Merritt and Daniel Robinson are in the due diligence phase of the purchase of the property. They said it was built in 1929 as a boarding house, with a two story addition in the 1940s. They prefer to make the existing structures work, adding a pool, gardens, and public spaces. The MCAC Bylaw addendum motion was withdrawn and a vote was not held. There was constructive discussion, and the co-chairs will appoint a working group to decide how policies get written, as committee policies or as part of the bylaws.
