Everyone's Children Annual Report

Citywide Forum: Significant Case Review Sub-Group 

The Citywide Forum's Significant Case Review/Child Protection sub-group met on 10th April to identify processes for third sector to implement and disseminate findings from Significant Case Reviews and to form a city-wide action plan. This action plan will then be fed back to the Glasgow Child Protection Committee.

The group plan to meet again on 17th May. If you are interested in joining, please get in touch: citywideforum@gcvs.org.uk 

National Third Sector GIRFEC Project: Promising Planning  

In April 2018, Children in Scotland became the host for the National Third Sector GIRFEC project, taking over from previous partners Barnardo’s Scotland, Voluntary Action Scotland and the Improvement Service.

The final output from the original team Promising Planning has been produced to support and encourage the effective collaboration of the third sector and all planning partners in the ongoing development of Children's Services Plans.

Year of Young People Fund  

The National Lottery’s Year of Young People Fund will support projects which boost the health and wellbeing of 8 to 26 year olds living in Scotland. Funding from £3,000 to £10,000 will be available for sport, community and heritage projects.

Child Poverty Delivery Plan Published   

The Scottish Government have published the first Child Poverty Delivery Plan due under the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act 2017. It outlines action for the period 2018-22.

Single Parents Views 

One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) have published a report on single parents views of the Child Poverty Delivery Plans. Access the report here.

Early Learning and Childcare Service Model for 2020: Consultation  

The Scottish Government and COSLA are consulting on the new early learning and childcare service model for 2020.

Bill to Raise the Age of Criminal Responsiblity in Scotland  

The Scottish Parliament have introduced a Bill to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years.

Child Sex Exploitation 

The Scottish Government have published the second annual report of progress against action set out in Scotland's National Action Plan to Prevent and Tackle Child Sexual Exploitation.

Glasgow Child Protection Committee have produced a leaflet on Child Sex Exploitation for organisations/individual's working with children and young people. Download the leaflet here.

Inquiry On Attainment and Achievement of School Aged Children Experiencing Poverty: Submissions 

The Scottish Parliament Education and Skills Committee have published submissions received on their inquiry on attainment and achievement of school aged children experiencing poverty.

Welfare Foods - A Consultation On Meeting the Needs of Children and Families  

The Scottish Government is consulting on how to develop an effective 'Welfare Foods' package for Scotland that reaches the right children at the right time and makes it easier for families to make healthier choices.

South Glasgow Networking Event SOLD OUT
Thursday 19th April, 2.30pm - 5.00pm - Govanhill Queens Park Parish Church, Queens Drive 
This event is for local councillors and staff working in health, social care and education to meet up with third sector organisations who provide services that help children, young people and families in the South of Glasgow. 
Support and Supervision Skills 
Friday 27th April, 9.30am - 4.30pm - Albany Centre 
This one day course aims to build your skills and confidence in holding support and supervision meetings with staff.

In this interactive session you will revisit the purpose of supervision, focussing on key skills and practices that will help you to build positive and constructive relationships with staff, to boost and improve performance.

Caring for Vulnerable Children - Online Course 
Monday 16th April 
CELCIS are running an open online course which will help you explore and develop an understanding of the approaches involved in caring for vulnerable children.

Unlocking Schematic Play 
Friday 20th April, 2.00pm - 4.30pm - Jurys Inn, Glasgow 
At this Early Years Scotland training explore the foundations of schemas and extend learning further. You will consider recent research exploring a range of schema evident in in open-ended play and provide more depth and knowledge on the topic.

Supporting Families Conference 
Thursday 26th April, West Park Conference Centre - Dundee
This major conference run by Parenting across Scotland looks at the impact of austerity and welfare reform on families using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a framework for supporting families.

Tackling Hate Speech FREE
Tuesday 8th May & Thursday 21st June - Interfaith Scotland, Flemington House 
Interfaith Scotland and Outside In Training are delivering one-day training courses for youth workers, on how to respond when a young person uses religious or other hate speech.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training FREE

Scottish Drugs Forum is currently offering training courses throughout May 2018 on drug awareness and alcohol awareness to anyone who lives or works in Glasgow.
