#SayHisName

Saheed “Sy” Vassell was well known in the Crown Heights neighborhood he called his home for over 20 years before being gunned down by police in front of his teenage son on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was unarmed and harmless, but was killed in broad daylight eight seconds after the police arrived on the scene. Our love is with his family. Our eyes are on justice. To keep Saheed's memory alive, say his name.

Justice for Saheed

Beginning with an April 5th demonstration, BMC has helped lead a series of street actions, press events and press statements designed to demand Justice for Saheed and to correct the narrative being spun by the NYPD. Along with Saheed’s family and Communities United for Police Reform (CPR), BMC is demanding:

  • a release of all of the video footage of the incident
  • the names and disciplinary records of the officers involved in Saheed's killing; and
  • an explanation of why the SRG police unit - designed to respond to civil unrest and terrorist incidents - was deployed.

Want to join us in calling for justice for Saheed? Donate here to directly support Saheed’s family. To get plugged into future actions, send an email to PAW@brooklynmovementcenter.org.
