2018 Chess Tournament Results

The annual ESU 9 Chess Tournament was held on March 23, 2018 at Central Community College. 110 students participated in this event!

Self-Advocacy Workshop

Wednesday, March 7^th ESU 9 hosted a workshop at the Hastings Public Library focused on self-advocacy.  With over 40+ high school students in attendance, students learned about the importance of advocating.  Students also explored a variety of learning styles and were involved with a series of activities to identify the way they learn best.  We also had presenters available to discuss the differences between high school and college and dining etiquette for potential work meetings.  Students had the opportunity to try out their etiquette over lunch.  Students also enjoyed listening to advocates from the area talk about how they got involved in the Nebraska Youth Leadership Council.  In the afternoon, students, with the help of local teachers and paras, were involved with real life scenarios where they talked about a variety of topics they will most likely be faced with after high school.  Students had the opportunity to increase their knowledge and advocate in a group setting.  A highlight of the day was when students were able to talk with other students to get to know them better.  It was a great day!
