Happy Easter, Blue Skies and Spring Tidings

A lot has happened since my last newsletter. I have been asked to join Candida Stevens Gallery in Chichester - I am delighted, having been a fan of the gallery for some time. If you don't know it yet, do get along to the latest exhibition by Stephen Farthing RA.

My new residency at West Horsley Place
(www.westhorsleyplace.org) has finally begun. It will be a long term project, a labour of love, but I have made my first explorations of the place, and it is truly wonderful - a beautiful house and garden. Thinking back to my previous residencies, I am reminded of what it is that inspires me about such places, by an article I recently wrote for the Turner Society News Magazine about being A Guest in Turner's House  - you can order a copy via their website, or follow this link to read it on my blog.

At the end of April I am presenting a paper at a symposium on Reverie, part of a 5 year funded project "Knowing From The Inside" at the University of Aberdeen, department of Social Anthropology. As a visual artist with a BA in Social Anthropology, this is an opportunity to rekindle my fascination with the subject, whilst also celebrating my development as an artist, 'knowing from the inside' as indeed I sometimes feel I do!

The Summer art courses are all up and running, often full to bursting, whether in Shoreham, Pallant House Gallery, Arundel, Seawhite Studio or West Dean. But please do always enquire, and put your name down on the waiting list, whenever there is one - as last minute places often come up. In August I shall be winging my way to Denmark, to teach a 2 workshops at Liza's Gallery, Møn. And next week I am visiting a new venue in Italy near Modena, with a view to running workshops and retreats there in the future.

Finally, exhibitions: Don't miss my dear friend and photographer Sarah Ketelaars new show at 35 North Gallry, North RoadBrighton. I myself am in 2 open houses this summer - Brighton and Hove Open houses in May, followed by the Adur Art Trail Shoreham in June -  where I will be showing an installation of my daily drawings, accompanied by songs and music composed specially for the event by Rebecca Askew. As well as creating a soundtrack to accompany the exhibition, Rebecca will be performing live every Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Together we will lead a Walking Singing Drawing workshop on Sunday 10 June 9 -11am (contact me for k.sollohub@ntlworld.com for info).

Landscape Summer School July 9th - 13th 2018 ( Monday - Friday )

Week 2 - We will be making paintings inspired by the Cuckmere Haven Valley, over looking the sea and the Seven Sisters. For the first two days we will be based at the Coastguards Cottage. From there we will work in the surrounding landscape making lots of studies. For the final three days of the course we will be based in the Studio at Partridge Green, where you will make paintings from the studies and your memory of the experience. During the five days there will be space for experimentation, risk taking and development of work that goes beyond trying to copy what you see and instead becomes a much more expressive and personal response.
