North News

April 2018
Good morning, North Junior High. Here are a few words of wisdom.
Every day we are faced with many decisions. The choices we make affect not only us, but those around us . . . and those around those around us. It's like throwing a pebble into a still pond. Our choices ripple out into the world in ways we don't always understand. How do we make the right choice? William James, great American philosopher, says:
Tell him to live by yes and no. Yes to everything good.
No to everything bad.
How do we know what's good and what's bad? How do we know right from wrong? First, we listen to the wisdom of our teachers, parents, and grandparents or perhaps our faith leaders. And then second, we listen to our hearts.
Are you trying to make an important choice in life? Then turn off the iPod and the TV. Turn off the video games and CDs. Sit. Be still. Listen, and
Let your conscience be your guide.

Sincerely,
Ellen Stewart
Principal, North Junior High School

Parent Climate Surveys
Please have your students turn in the Parent Climate Survey forms by April 6th.  Thank you!
Family Online Attendance Entry
We are excited to announce that North Jr. High has joined other schools in the district to move to an online attendance entry system for parents. You may log into your Skyward Parent portal and create absences for your child. You will be able to identify absences for a specific child, share the time frame and the reason without calling or sending a note. Ms. Theis will then review the online entry, confirm its accuracy (in fact, your child is not present), and code as excused/unexcused per the district student handbook. Step-by-step directions can be found HERE.  We welcome your suggestions and comments!
FAB CREW
Being a FAB CREW Member means you are coming to
school striving to be your BEST SELF,  show
KINDNESS  and HELP OTHERS  each day.

FAB (which stands for ‘friends against bullying”)
was created by students and is in its 5th year!
Exclusive to North Jr High, FAB Crew offers a
school-wide membership available to ALL students.

How do students join the Crew?
Students sign up in the office to receive a brief
training over their lunch/advisory period.  Here
they will learn ways to deal with stressors when
they are having a tough day, if someone is
treating them in an unkind way, and how to help
their fellow classmates in these same situations.
At training, each student receives a FAB Crew ID
badge holder with lanyard. Once trained, you are
forever a Crew member!   Students continue to
inspire and support one another to join this
amazing group and the trainings continue!!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have received a number of complaints from other parents/guardians about the flow of traffic in the parent pick up/drop off location by Door 1.  Please refer to the diagram that indicates that the lane closest to the building (yellow lane) should be where parents can park for brief periods of time to pick up students.  If you are first in line, you should pull forward as far as possible to allow others to park behind you.  The next lane (red arrows) is a "moving" lane to allow for cars to back out if parking in the visitor parking area or for those leaving and need to turn into this lane to drive out.  Please do not be stationary in this "moving" lane.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our students safe!

Parents,
