The Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) at MIT seeks to promote excellence and transformation in education at MIT and globally. As an incubator for change in education, J-WEL engages educators, technologists, policymakers, and societal leaders in addressing global opportunities for education through online and in-person collaborations, workshops, and information-sharing events.

Second J-WEL Week Held March 19-22
Despite the threat of a New England snowstorm, over 100 participants joined us at MIT from 24 countries and six continents with the theme, "Learning Communities of the Future." The event was featured in MIT News. J-WEL Weeks are members-only events that feature thematic, faculty-led programs composed of interactive workshops and discussions, facility tours, and early research briefs on the latest in learning science, curriculum, and pedagogy of MIT.

The 2018 LINC Conference will be held on June 18-20 on the MIT campus, with the theme "How to Thrive in a New Learning Society." LINC provides a framework for meaningful discussions about access, adoption, and applications, allowing speakers and presenters to share their views and findings on the key technological, social, and cultural challenges we face in the new learning society. Higher Education @ J-WEL Curriculum Design Workshop
July 9-20 at MIT

We invite university faculty from any institution to apply, and faculty from J-WEL member universities, for this intensive workshop. Participants will develop a rubric for curriculum design, MIT-style, and leave with implementation-ready curriculum. Applicable to individual faculty or groups wishing to effect major curriculum redesign across a discipline.

High School Students from Beijing Create Aquatic ROVs at MIT

As part of MIT’s pK-12 programs, high school students from Beijing, China traveled to MIT for intensive workshops, where they worked with MIT instructors from the Edgerton Center to design and build aquatic ROVs. Read more or watch footage from the event.

MIT Releases Global Engineering Education Report

On March 27, MIT News announced the publication of a new MIT-sponsored report, "Global state of the art in engineering education." The report provides insight into how engineering education is currently being practiced at the undergraduate level worldwide and how it is likely to transform in the coming years. Read more.
Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Awards MITili and Harvard $30 Million Grant to Improve Childhood Literacy
 
"Reach Every Reader" will conduct research on personalized learning and interventions to enhance early childhood literacy. MITili's Associate Director, Jeff Dieffenbach, spoke at March 2018 J-WEL Week. Read more.

MIT's Connected Learning Initiative Receives UNESCO Award

The Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx
) has been awarded the 2017 UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize. CLIx is a joint project between MIT Open Learning, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and the Tata Trusts in India that works toward advancing the professional and academic opportunities available to high school learners from underserved communities in India.
