The 3rd ICPCN Conference taking place in Durban, South Africa in May and June this year promises to be a unique and enriching experience.

With an exciting and diverse line-up of world class speakers and a programme designed to inspire all members of the multi-disciplinary team, time is running out for you to book your spot. Registrations close on 20 May 2018.

Speakers

Conference speakers have been confirmed. These include:

  • Dr Marie-Charlotte Bouësseau Adviser at the Dept. of Service Delivery and Safety at the WHO
  • Dr MR Rajagopal  2018 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and founder chairman of Pallium India
  • Sister Frances Dominica (OBE) ICPCN Patron and Founder of Helen House, the very first children's hospice
  • Dr Satbir Jassal (MBE)  Chair and editor of the APPM Master Formulary and editor of the Rainbows Children's Hospice Symptom Control Manual
  • Prof Danai Papadatou Professor of Clinical Psychology at the National Kapodistrian University in Athens
  • Kelly du Plessis CEO and Founder of Rare Diseases South Africa

Workshops

A full day of pre-conference workshops on Wed 30 May has been finalised and can be booked separately or along with your registration. These workshops draw on an impressive pool of expertise and allow you the opportunity to interact with presenters. The 7 workshops are as follows:

  1. Children's Palliative Care in Humanitarian situations  A half-day workshop presented by Joan Marston (PALCHASE) and Prof Danai Papadatou.
  2. Reaching out to develop a children's palliative care programme A half-day workshop presented by Paul Quilliam (Hummingbird House Australia) and Lynda Gould (Butterfly House in China)
  3. Perinatal Palliative Care A half-day workshop presented by Dr Chakrapani Vasudevan, Dr Justin Baker and Dr Rut Kiman.
  4. Ethics in Children's Palliative Care. A half-day workshop presented by Dr Julia Ambler, Dr Delia Birtar, and Dr Richard Hain.
  5. Difficult conversations in Children's Palliative Care A half-day workshop presented by Tracey Brand, Dr Marianne Phillips and Dr Hanneke Brits.
  6. Research in Children's Palliative Care A half-day workshop presented by Prof Julia Downing (ICPCN), Jan Aldridge and Marie Friedel.
  7. Managing pain in Children's Pallaitive Care from birth to young adulthood A full day workshop presented by Drs Sat Jassal, Regina Okhuysen-Cawley, Michelle Meiring, Catherine Habershy and Pat Carragher.

Meet the experts

A number of early morning 50 minute 'meet the experts' sessions where delegates can learn from the 'best of the best' and will be given the opportunity to ask questions and enter into in-depth discussions on important topics. These include:

  • Managing complex symptoms  Drs Sat Jassal, Hanneke Brits and Regina Okhuysen-Cawley
  • Therapeutic Touch: 5 simple strokes to use each day  Marie Wrinn
  • Advocacy in Children's Palliative Care Stephen Connor, Busi Nkosi and Kelly du Plessis
  • Psychosocial issues in Children's Palliative Care Prof Danai Papadatou and Tracey Brand
  • Architectural innovation for paediatric health design in resource constrained countries Architects: Edwina Fleming (South Africa) and Amruta Talawadekar (India)
  • Children's Palliative Care in SADC countries Dr Michelle Meiring, Busi Nkosi and Chenjari Bhodeni

Events

Noteworthy conference events include:

  • A Welcome Reception hosted by the city of Durban and held at the famous uShaka Marine World on the beachfront. 
  • Film premiere  The South African premiere showing of the film HIPPOCRATIC: 18 Experiments in Gently Shaking the World featuring the work of Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr MR Rajagopal 
  • Gala Dinner at the stunning Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel. Delegates are encouraged to wear traditional or formal attire to this event.

Registration for the conferences will close on Monday 20 May 2018. You have just 3 days left to submit a late breaking abstract and 10 days to apply for a full or partial registration scholarship.
