Our Second Event - April 14th!!

Here at PHNEE, we know that equity in our schools is not simply a matter of district funding decisions, or school assignment policies, but also requires a culture of inclusivity - of truly valuing the unique assets of every member of our community. This was why we are so grateful to Dr. Nita Mosby-Tyler for sharing her expertise on these issues at our first event, and is why are thrilled to announce our second public event.

Dr. Jennifer Harvey is a Denver native who attended Denver Public Schools, including Stedman Elementary, and graduated from South High School in 1989. She is a writer, speaker, and professor of religion and ethics at Drake University. Her work focuses on racial justice and white anti-racism, and was greatly informed by her time at Stedman.

Dr. Harvey will facilitate a workshop on raising inclusive and anti-racist kids. This workshop will focus on how to help our children become inclusive participants in a society that will soon be one of the most racially diverse in the world, and give us all better tools for meaningful inter-racial relationships.
We believe that parents are the foundation of a school community, and that parents empowered with knowledge and given the tools to more meaningfully engage in inclusivity, can lead by example in a school community. We think this workshop will be a step in that direction.
April 14th, from 1pm - 4pm at Montview Presbyterian Church. We will have childcare, as well as refreshments. Please spread the word, and join us for an important conversation. RSVP on Facebook, as it will help us better plan food and childcare.

Since we have Dr. Harvey in town, and since she has a brand new book out, we are also partnering with the Park Hill Library on a book signing. Dr. Harvey will read some excepts from her book, and there will be a chance to ask questions and engage in dialog about these issues. Additionally, she has graciously agreed to donate the proceeds from the book sales that evening to the elementary schools in our neighborhood.

Our schools are always looking for additional adults to help out. So, if you can spare 30 minutes a week, an hour a week, whatever you are comfortable with, please fill out this form and we will get you connected to a school that needs you.
