On March 12, ICLEI East Asia officially established its Beijing Representative Office. ICLEI East Asia has been working closely with a number of Chinese local governments on sustainable urban development. The establishment of the Beijing Representative Office will allow ICLEI East Asia to provide further support to cities on low-carbon and resilient development in China.
During the 3rd meeting of the Seoul-Beijing Joint Committee held in March, the two cities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote municipal cooperation on environment, with a special focus on clean air actions. Recognized as an international supportive cooperation, ICLEI East Asia is ready to provide further assistance to the two cities for their joint efforts on clean air.
As the program Secretariat of East Asia Clean Air Cities (EACAC), ICLEI East Asia actively participated in the Clean Air Week hosted in Bangkok, and co-organized a session during the Asia-Pacific Clean Air Partnership Joint Forum. EACAC cities of Beijing, Jinan and Ulaanbaatar took part in the panel to share their experiences and perspectives on local clean air actions.
On May 16-17, ICLEI East Asia will be hosting the EcoProcura China 2018: ICLEI Green Public Procurement Capacity Building Workshop in Beijing, to support Chinese cities of the United Nations One Planet Network (10YFP) “GPP Tender Implementation and Impact Monitoring” project in developing preliminary GPP strategy and action plan for their perspective jurisdictions.
ICLEI East Asia will continue to work with our Members on project implementation, and will actively engage in events worldwide, including ICLEI World Congress 2018 (Ville de Montréal, Canada), the Eco-Forum Global 2018 (Guiyang, China), the Global Climate Action Summit (San Francisco, USA) and the 24th UN Climate Change Conference (Katowice, Slaskie, Poland). We look forward to your engagement and participation on all these occasions.
