Restoration Works Commence at Alan Anderson Park

Walliston residents may have noticed a hype of activity at Alan Anderson Park recently as works to restore the site get underway.

The City is undertaking earthworks to reinstate the ground surface, with replanting of grass to take place during winter. The playground has also been removed to facilitate works and will be reinstalled prior to the Park's opening.

For the safety of the community, the Park will remain off-limits during works. The Park is expected to be re-opened for all to enjoy in January 2019.

Council Votes to Save Trees

City of Kalamunda Councillors gathered for a Special Council Meeting on 17 April 2018 to review an application to amend the development approval for a place of worship on Welshpool Road East, Wattle Grove.

The amendment involves a change of design to the slip lane into the property so that more of the Lemon Scented Gums along the boundary can be retained.

All Councillors in attendance voted unanimously on the amendment, acknowledging that the road design had been modified to the greatest possible extent to save as many trees as possible.

The approved amendment will mean that only one Lemon Scented Gum will require removal to build the slip lane into the facility, instead of all.

City Reflects on 120 Year Anniversary

April 16 marked the 120 year anniversary of the first meeting of the Darling Range Road Board (now known as the City of Kalamunda Council).

At the time, the scattered residents of the Kalamunda area were beginning to feel the need for a Roads Board that was able to look after their most pressing community need, which was roads.

The founding members often worked tirelessly, walking for miles to get to meetings, spending hours out in the bush pegging road boundaries, personally supervising clearing and making of roads.

The day provided an opportunity for the City to reflect on the work and achievements of its founding members who helped make the City of Kalamunda what is it today.

Planting Season Gets Underway

This planting season the City of Kalamunda in conjunction with local Friends Groups will be hosting a number of Community Planting Days at local parks and reserves throughout the City.

The planting days are aimed at getting residents out and about in the fresh air, enjoying the company of friends and family whilst giving something back to the environment and local community.

The planting days will be guided by Friends Group members, who selflessly volunteer their time to maintain local parks and reserves in the name of keeping Kalamunda beautiful.
