This week, Jeff Bezos announced that Amazon Prime subscriptions have exceeded 100 million while Netflix is reportedly doubling its 2018 budget for European originals (and co-productions) to $1 billion. Hulu is offering its subscribers a 6 month discount to HBO's director-to-consumer service, HBO Now, as the new season of Westworld approaches. Liberty-owned F1 is set to launch its OTT service next month, to coincide with the start of the Spanish Grand Prix on May 13th while the NBA has partnered with Twitch for the latter to air its 2K eSports League.
Disney is seemingly optimistic about a successful Fox takeover, as subsidiary ESPN has partnered with Fox Sports to bid on UFC rights in the USA. The UK Takeover Panel has ordered that if the Disney-Fox merger goes ahead, Disney must make an offer for Sky Europe, which is launching its Sky Q service in Germany and Austria next month. In other UK-related news, David Abraham, ex-chief of commercial broadcaster Channel 4 is launching a production company, Wonderhood Studios, in the coming months.

ESPN, Fox Sports Team Up for UFC TV-Rights Bid | Variety
"According to sources with knowledge of the proposal, ESPN has signaled that it would be willing to pay $120-180 million per year to add the Endeavor-owned mixed martial arts league to its collection of live-event rights.
Fox, which currently pays $120 million per year UFC rights, would be willing see that number increase to a little more than $200 million. "
