Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

Happy sunny day!  What a beautiful week it has been and the students are all definitely getting excited for our impending summer.  We have just over five weeks to go, so they are going to have to hold on a bit longer. Our principals for the day, Tyler and Reese Halffman, did an awesome job making sure that students had a solid day of learning while also enjoying chocolate milk, donuts, and animal free dress.  Thank you, Madame Principals!

This week not only brought a change in the weather, it also brought some changes for some of our staff members.  The husband of Gerrie Cunningham, one of our 8th grade teachers, was offered an amazing job opportunity in Spokane.  As they look at buying a home and starting a family, this was an opportunity they could not pass up.  Being a Gonzaga graduate, I know that Gerrie is also excited about being able to cheer for her Zags in person!  She also isn’t going alone.  As amazing as it is, Mark Thibodeau, our other 8th grade teacher, will be going to Spokane as well.  His wife was also offered an incredible job opportunity and they are also looking to buy a home and start a family.  Mark is also a Gonzaga alum and avid fan, and going back to the city in which he began his teaching career.  While we are definitely going to miss these two incredible teachers and I know they are both sad to be leaving us, we are so very excited for them and the opportunities this brings to each of their families.

In other staff news, we want to wish congratulations to Christina Dougherty!  Christina, husband Verne, and daughter Charlotte will be welcoming a new addition to their family in September.  We could not be happier for them!

I wanted to pass along an article that Fr. Oliver sent me last week.  It is a good, quick read and another important reminder regarding the effects of social media on children.
https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/our-loneliness-epidemic/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=article_left_1.1

We are looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night for our "Stage & Screen" spring concert at 7:00 PM in the gym.  Our choir, bands, and thespians have been working hard and are ready to showcase their talent.  It will be a wonderful event and a huge thank you goes to Mr. Van Pelt, Mr. Turner, and Ms. Olsen for their hard work.

As we head towards the end of the week, don’t forget that Friday is our annual Walkathon!  Students may wear their PE uniforms on Friday and don’t forget comfortable shoes.  Please see below for more information and get those donations in as soon as possible.  As of today, our first grade class is leading the way with kindergarten right on their heels!

Finally, please be sure to turn in all registration paperwork as soon as possible.  Signed parish reflection forms are due on Monday.

Have a wonderful week!

All my best,
Kathleen

Please Record Your Volunteer Hours

There's a rumor going around that logging volunteer hours will take forever. I promise you - it's not that bad. You can log up to 23 hours at one time!

Access the link here. (It's also available on our website under Parents/Volunteering or on our homepage under Parent Links.)

How to record a couple of hours at one time:

  • Click on the link
  • You will be prompted to login. Whichever parent has a FACTS account also has a username on our website.
  • Login: lastname and first initial, all together, no caps. (Like pouleyd – Dylan Pouley)
  • Password: Temporarily, your password is your first name (dylan)
  • If you don’t have a username for some reason, you can register using the link. Once logged in, follow the prompts to add your hours.

Here what you do if you are recording several hours:

If you need to record 10 hours of work for the auction, pick a day and choose 9am – 7pm and indicate auction hours in the box.

You can record up to 23.5 hours at one time. If you need to record 50 hours of coaching, start at 12:15am and end at 11:45pm. That will give you 23.5. Then just do that same thing two more times, adjusting the final hours to get to your desired number.

(We plan to bill for hours at the end of May, so please record your hours soon.)

Scrip News

Back by popular demand!  This summer we are offering two options for scrip.
  1. In May, you can choose to double up on your monthly standing order to get you through the summer.
  2. We will also give you the option to re-start your monthly standing order in August and pick up at ASB any time after the 15th
Questions? Email scrip@asbschool.org.

With ASB School starting Summer Vacation on June 4, 2018 Summer is right around the corner.  I have received a great number of Camp ASB Registration forms and will start inputting these registration forms into FACTS this week.  If I have not already, I will be contacting families this week to confirm their selections for prepayments and to add these charges to your FACTS account.

The Camp ASB Calendar can be found on the school website and it is included in this newsletter. Registrations and prepayments for Camp ASB, including registration for the Camp ASB Field Trips, are now being accepted. Some field trips have a limited number of space and it is important for those families that want their children to attend, or need their children to attend Camp ASB on those days, are free to secure their spots. This can be done by contacting me or indicating your needs on the Camp ASB Registration Forms.

KinderCamp registrations are now being accepted.  Similar to last year,  KinderCamp will be held Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Session One: Once Upon a Time… June 11-15, 2018

Session Two: Construction Junction... July 30- August 3, 2018

Session Three: If held, will be developed and advertised to parents prior to Summer Vacation.

Please make sure to review the summer prepayment schedule included in the registration forms, as it will help relay the dates that Camp ASB will be open this summer.  If you have any questions about Extended Care or Camp ASB, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Watts Basketball

It's great to see ASB kids this year participating in our classes and camps.  We have always viewed the game as a way to build healthy habits, community connections, and long-term success on and off the court. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to see your child’s participation and success within the Northeast Seattle community.

Watts basketball is striving in our partnership with the Northeast Seattle community, and our objective is to create a community where our children love to practice and are also excited to use the skills they learn on and off the court. Summer camps are a great way for kids to have fun and build confidence.
