Garden Talk:

Alrighty.  It's gonna be warm this week.  But, let's not forget, frost is still possible.  If you decide to chance it and plant out frost sensitive plants (tomatoes, squash, peppers, etc.), you either need to be prepared to replant if there is a frost, or protect them with frost blanket, wall-o-waters, or other method.

What can I plant now, safely?
Well, in general, plants you are growing for the leaf, stem, or closed flower (broccoli, cauliflower), are frost friendly.  You can safely plant them anytime in the spring once the soil is workable.
Plants you are growing for the fruit (any seed body, eg: tomato, pepper, okra), are frost sensitive, and shouldn't be planted until chance of frost has passed.
Exceptions!  Peas love cold, where beans love heat.  Fava beans, however, like cold.  Basil requires heat, as do some, but not all, other herbs.

When can I plant everything else?
Local lore speaks to waiting for the snow visible on Shafer Butte (Bogus), to melt.  This is a pretty good indicator.  The last statistical frost is May 10th, but that also, is not a guarantee.  Spring planting in Boise is a toss of the dice, so be prepared with frost blanket just in case, pretty much anytime before June 1st.
