More Than 1,400 Students Academically Eligible to Receive a 2018 Tower Award

 
"For 24 years, OMED: Educational Services has hosted the Tower Awards to celebrate the academic achievements of underrepresented students at Georgia Tech. Among the more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students eligible to receive a 2018 Tower Award (an increase of 200 over the previous year), more than 350 students were recognized during the annual award ceremony on April 5."

SAA Gift to Tech Awarded to LGBTQIA Resource Center

 
"The votes are in, and the LGBTQIA Resource Center is the 2018 Gift to Tech winner. The organization will receive more than $35,000 for new office space and programmatic support."

Institute Diversity Vice President Archie Ervin Re-elected President of NADOHE

 
"Institute Diversity Vice President Archie Ervin was recently re-elected as president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) for a second two-year term from 2018 to 2020. He is a founding member of NADOHE and has served continuously as either a board member and/or officer since its inception."

Take an anonymous online survey - Win a $25 Amazon gift card

You are invited to participate in an anonymous online survey to better understand the unique experiences of 
students of color attending predominantly white institutions (PWIs), the challenges faced, and the methods utilized to overcome them. 

This survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The responses provided on this survey will not be directly linked to you at any time. In addition, at the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter into a drawing for a one in 20 chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

The information from this study may give insight into the unique barriers faced by students of color at PWIs. If identified, these insights may help to increase support for these groups, which could help students of color better navigate their environments and increase their psychological well-being and academic success.”

From Learning, Analytics, and Materials to Entrepreneurship and Leadership (FLAMEL) Doctoral Traineeship Program

Are you interested in becoming the next data scientist of tomorrow? FLAMEL is currently recruiting Ph.D. students for the next cohort that will begin in fall 2018.

FLAMEL students will formulate relevant problems in material design or manufacturing. Includes an entrepreneurship component designed to enable students to transform research innovations into commercial products and services. Main goal is to prepare students to develop careers in materials informatics.

FLAMEL can offer a one-year assistantship and accepted students will receive a stipend of $30,000 for the year, plus tuition.

2018 ExxonMobil LOFT Fellowship Program


Exxon Mobil Corporation, one of the world’s largest publicly traded international oil and gas companies, has partnered with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to create fellowships in STEM fields for Hispanic college students. Through HHF’s Latinos On Fast Track (LOFT) program, ExxonMobil seeks to nurture motivated college students across the country, with a passion for engineering and science.

Selected students will be exposed to a top-quality company by participating in this signature mentoring program. Each student will be paired up with one of ExxonMobil engineers/scientists to learn how their knowledge is applied in a corporate setting. 

Fellowship applicants with the following majors will be given priority, though other majors should apply: 
- Mechanical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Geoscience

Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
