Movin' on up!
A heart. A home. A future.

Miss Ruthie's House!

A generous Bakashana supporter, as a gift for her 90th birthday, has purchased a forever home for Bakashana in Kasama! We have named our new home in her honor: Miss Ruthie's House.  This move offers a better location, easier access, increased security, additional space and the freedom to make it our own.  For the first time ever, Bakashana will have a space that represents our creativity, passion, and diversity!

One of our pupils, Given, who is studying to be a teacher, thanks Ruth for the new space! More room to learn and explore!

Other Bakashana Happenings:

Our program continues to thrive and grow! With your support we are responding to the needs of the Kasama community.

  • We've sent 84 girls to high school  so far this year!
  • Our new home (resource center) has allowed us to offer new (free) classes  in art, basic literacy, and spoken English.
  • For the third year in a row we are offering our wildly popular free computer classes which serve more than 100 pupils a year.
  • Workshops at the Resource Center this year include: computer coding camp for girls, HIV/AIDS sensitizations for traditional marriage counselors, organic gardening, gender and sexual health rights for youth.
