The people-centered hospital: Designing a space for the whole community on an incredible site
Imagine: easily finding a parking spot in an underground lot, and finding your way to the rest of the building intuitively by following daylight streaming in from the entrance. Imagine a community space with paths and plenty of trees, where you can walk your dog or go for a run. Imagine a workplace with big, bright windows that’s easy to reach by public transit.
You might not associate any of these images with a hospital – but this is the hospital of the future. The Province of Ontario announced in March that it will put up to $1.8 billion towards building The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus; in the coming years, the hospital will work with the community and government partners to make the hospital of the future a reality.
