Tosi on "Moral Grandstanding"
"We’ve done it. You probably have, too. No matter what we believe about morality or politics, we’ve all used moral talk to project an impressive and morally respectable image of ourselves." So starts Dr. Justin Tosi and Dr. Brandon Warmke's essay "Moral grandstanding: there’s a lot of it about, all of it bad." They're currently working on a book on the subject for Oxford University Press.
In Part Five of the Seven Deadly Sins series, Wrath, Dr. Justin Tosi, from the Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics, Georgetown University, will discuss how moral grandstanding fits into our current condition of online vitriol and heated political and social debate.
Dr. Tosi will touch on polarization, the "ramping up" of moral discussions, and how these lead to an increasingly angry and cynical public sphere.
