Blue crab abundance remains above population threshold
In 2018, an estimated 147 million adult female blue crabs were found in the Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Stock Assessment Committee will use this information to determine the sustainability of the blue crab stock.

In 2017, an estimated 104,843 acres of submerged aquatic vegetation grew in the Bay: 14,843 acres greater than our 2017 target, 57 percent of our ultimate goal and the first time in modern history the Bay's grasses have surpassed 100,000 acres.

Pennsylvania opens 110 stream miles to migratory fish
In 2017, six dam removals in the Keystone State pushed the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership to 124 percent of its fish passage goal. Of the 1,236 stream miles opened to fish passage over the last five years, 648 are located in Pennsylvania and 565 are located in Virginia.
