Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd [& also happens to be my brother Zach's birthday :)], which makes this week EARTH WEEK!! Even though every day should really be treated as Earth Day, I think this is a special time to get some perspective and remember how strange and precious our lives are on this luminous planet.
At the end of the day, we are pretty damn lucky to get to experience it. I think there are a lot of things to say about Earth Day, but instead of me rambling on about it I'd like to share a link to this short film with you all -- it's called OVERVIEW, and speaks to the dramatic change in perspective & consciousness that astronauts have experienced after seeing the Earth from space -- and really, the shift in humanity that has been occurring ever since the late 1960's when human beings saw a photo of the Earth for the first time (this was also a catalyst for the first Earth Day in 1970).
Watch OVERVIEW here, I highly recommend it.
"Once a photograph of the Earth, taken from outside, is available...
a new idea as powerful as any in history will be let loose."
— Fred Hoyle, 1948
