HAPPY EARTH WEEK

Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd [& also happens to be my brother Zach's birthday :)], which makes this week EARTH WEEK!!  Even though every day should really be treated as Earth Day, I think this is a special time to get some perspective and remember how strange and precious our lives are on this luminous planet.

At the end of the day, we are pretty damn lucky to get to experience it. I think there are a lot of things to say about Earth Day, but instead of me rambling on about it I'd like to share a link to this short film with you all -- it's called OVERVIEW, and speaks to the dramatic change in perspective & consciousness that astronauts have experienced after seeing the Earth from space -- and really, the shift in humanity that has been occurring ever since the late 1960's when human beings saw a photo of the Earth for the first time (this was also a catalyst for the first Earth Day in 1970).

Watch OVERVIEW here, I highly recommend it.

"Once a photograph of the Earth, taken from outside, is available...
a new idea as powerful as any in history will be let loose."

— Fred Hoyle, 1948

GOOD NEWS TODAY ON PLANET EARTH:

1. We are alive and can read this.
2. We live on an incredibly beautiful & mysterious planet with air to breathe, water to drink, plants to grow and nourish our bodies with, a magnificent variety of other lifeforms to experience living with, all surrounded by stars and warmed by our powerful, radiant, vitamin D-rich sun. :)
3. All of the difficulties of our time give us the opportunities to find out what we're made of, and evolve into a healthier society - grow into our truest selves.
4. All in all, people are good. We all want love, we all want connection. To be treated with kindness and respect. To be seen and understood as we really are.
5. There are so many awesome humans doing incredible things to change the way we live on this earth for the better.
6. There is SO MUCH to be grateful for.

"Every 24-hour day is a tremendous gift to us. We should live in a way that makes joy and happiness possible."
— THICH NHAT HANH

DIRECT ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:

1. CELEBRATE EARTH WEEK!
This is a great time to reflect on the beauty of our planet and our lives on it -- enjoy just being outside, just breathing. Maybe it's also an opportunity to set some intentions or goals for giving back to our Earth in gratitude -- ways to help our ecosystems regenerate and heal. Also there are likely a lot of Earth Day events going on near you (there definitely are in Fort Collins) so go check them out and join together with other humans.

Speaking of ...

2. COME TO EARTHLINGS UNITE!
I really hope you can make it. :)

Wishing you all a nourishing and joyful Earth Week! Thanks for reading and being here.

with love,
Rachel
