As much as we'd like to say spring is here (and should be here), it sure seems to be taking its time this year! Here's photo to remind you of what it looks like, so you don't forget. ;)

An Open Door

When a guest was received in Palestine 2,000 years ago the host performed certain courtesies.  There was the kiss of welcome.  Water was provided to wash the dust from his feet, and oil to anoint his head.  The guests would recline at the meal and there was free access for the passer-by to stop and rest.

Persecution was already occurring in the New Testament time and led to the scattering of Christians from their homes.  Food and lodging became for many an urgent necessity.  There were also itinerant speakers, travelling from place to place preaching the gospel.  They received nothing from those who did not believe, so followers of Jesus were needed to host and provide for them.  Christians were warned by the apostles not to accommodate false teachers in their homes and thereby enable the deception to continue.

Job Opening at CESLM

Janelle Baldwin has worked faithfully as our Communications & Marketing Coordinator since 2012 and she has indicated she will be moving on when her contract expires on June 30th.  We are sad to see Janelle leave our team yet we thank her for serving with creativity, expertise and diligence.  Well done, Janelle!  We pray the Lord will continue to bless you and guide you.

The Cooperative ESL Ministries Society board invites eligible candidates to indicate their interest in the following part-time position of approximately 20 hours per month: Communications & Marketing Coordinator, with a strong background and skills in graphic design, who manages our website design and maintenance, social media posts, monthly newsletter and promotional materials.

This position is expected to commence with training on June 1st, 2018.  An expression of interest should include a current resume and cover letter outlining your skills, education and experience relevant to this role and should be emailed to al@eslcooperative.ca before April 30th, 2018.

Please direct questions about this role to al@eslcooperative.ca.  Should more than one application be received, an interview may be held with the applicant to further discuss his/her expression of interest.

Building My Skills Program
at Centre for Newcomers

 
This part time pre-employment program is created for LINC students assessed at benchmark levels 3 and 4.  It runs for 10 weeks, 3 mornings a week and is offered at no cost to participants.  The Building My Skills program prepares unemployed newcomers get their first job in Canada.  This opportunity will equip them with essential employment training in job search skills, life skills and basic computer skills. Emphasis is placed on helping participants understand and integrate confidently into the Canadian workplace and includes one-on-one support.  Efforts will be made to connect participants to employers.  The program is funded by IRCC.
 
Eligibility:
  • Permanent residents and refugees
  • Possess current assessment by ILVARC for LINC level CLB 3 or 4
  • Have no Canadian work experience
  • Motivated to find employment and ready, willing and able to work
  • Must commit to entire 10-week program

We train, network, mobilize, and inspire hundreds of current and prospective volunteers who work directly with newcomers in Calgary.  We support church ministries and community-based programs that serve newcomers to Canada by providing a variety of services.
